I'm sure I've heard somewhere before that we are legally obliged to defend our image rights, even if we don't really care in this case, as, if we didn't, this could lead to our logo becoming free for anyone to use.

Any legal types know if that's true or completely made up?

How far do you go with that? There is/was a rugby league team in Australia called the Seagulls for example, would the image rights extend to a nickname?

If we really don't want them to use the logo (and I can see why), then I hope we're the sort of club that would help them sort out an alternative and get new kit etc. Maybe invite them over for a game - or go over there. I'm sure there's something we can do to support a club who clearly have a soft spot for us. Better than crushing them because we can (and not very Albion).

No idea, I'm not sure it's even true!

Sounds like we and West Brom have some sort of formal agreement to not go after other clubs called 'Albion', presume Seagulls is treated similarly, so possibly the trademark can be written in such a way as to limit where you need to take action

Yes, it's why Steve Parish threatened to sue Armitage Shanks.

Apparently the team runs out to a stirring rendition of 'Good Old Koprivnica-Križevci By The Sea'

Nah, that would be like claiming ownership of the Red Lion as a pub name.

Really not the same as specific logo design.
