I was watching an episode of Australian MasterChef on the box last night, young chap made a meringue, it looked bloody lovely, all the other contestants stood up, and clapped and cheered, which was was really heart-warming. But strange, because Australians normally boo meringues.

I’m not sure this is true of all Aussies? I just asked an Australian online acquaintance and they said most Aussies generally don’t have strong feelings for or against meringue. I wonder where you heard they normally lean towards negativity with this dessert? All that aside, I am happy to hear that the other contestants were so supportive of their fellow competitor.

whilst I completely agree with the sentiments regarding Dan, WTF wasn't that in spoilers, especially as it was posted just as the program finished. I know you cant keep everything a secret for too long, but to put the result in the title was a bit inconsiderate given that so many people watch on iplayer later .

Yep, pretty bloody annoying. Unnecessary.

A shame for those who haven't watched but you could start an identical thread for discussing the other two finalists as in fairness the title (perhaps edited since I saw it) or the post don't give away the actual result.

I do agree though that Dan appears to be a dead genuine guy that had climbed some tough hills to get there and can't help but wish him all the very best and hope the pressure doesn't get to him along the way. Worth a listen to today's Food Prog on R4 for a reminder of how tough the business is.

Liked the others too - it was almost a shame there had to be a winner.

If I hadn't seen this thread beforehand, I would have thought George was going to win based on their comments...............................agree though, really liked all three and shame there was only one winner. Fantastic competition.

A women round here won it once. I was coming back from holiday in a cab and noticed a pub in the high street was shut, with a large group of people surrounding a big TV screen.

Got in and watched Masterchef.

Didn't realise until years later (after reading an interview) that she worked in that pub. They closed it and got all her friends and family round to watch the final.

No-one knew until the end.
