[Albion] The Albion model... slight concern

I think there is still an increible amount of talent and value in our squad. I do think we will see a shift of the type of value we get in for players due to PSR rules and there will be a lot of gnashing of teeth about undervaluing of players until fans accept that.

It's a numbers game. Some players, like Kozlovski or Sima, who will be sold at a loss. There'll be some where we get our money back or, in the case of Gilmour and Undav, make a modest profit. It doesn't take many 40m+ transfers to keep the income model valid, and you've listed 7 players that could credibly achieve that in the years to come.

I think you're being a bit unfair on Minteh. He's just turned 20, and had a really limited amount of European experience before joining us. He's raw talent.

Somebody on here recently likened our business model to a stud farm (without the horse sex obviously). There's a high degree of churn, buying and selling hand over fist, but seemingly no real focus on building and tweaking the first team into a stable cohesive unit. Maybe it's the modern game, but the Albion just seem to be a set of ever-revolving doors. It's undoubtedly a great business model if you're in the business of buying and selling. As a football model? Maybe not so much
But PL football is business? It ceased being a sport in the traditional sense long ago.

The model has always relied on some successes, some failures, some minor improvements.

Ferguson and Enciiso, might not hit the heights once hoped for, but then again they might.
There was a chunk of time, where it didn't look like MacAllister was going to make it.
Adingra is just one season away from being the player of the tournament at AFCON.

Similar questions were being raised about Buonanotte, last season.
Had to put up with several Leicester fans telling me about how good he is, last week.

Anyone who blindly Trusts The Process is in for a rude awakening sure as eggs is eggs. Kind of crap Potter used to come out with, and a bit worrying that new guy is coming out with it too
I mean, yeah, but Potter was right. "Trusting the process" left us in the top four, playing scintillating football and with a superb team for RDZ to inherit and build upon. RDZ didn't "trust the process" and nosedived into a last 6 months to rival Hughton's and Hurzeler has barely been here 6 months, so abandoning the process at this early stage (with us being 7th) would be pretty silly.

That's utter horseshit btw, but carry on with your agenda. Show me one post in any other thread where I've banged on about entitled success and demanding we win everything or indeed anything... It'll take you a while.

This thread is not about results on the pitch, moreover it's about maximising the success of our existing model... sure, one critique I have, and I don't think it's too unfair, is that Fabian doesn't seem as invested in working hard to bring players back into form... he's a group dynamic type of guy, as such certain individuals will get left behind... Julio being a case in point.

It's also interesting that no one is even a mite concerned that he or we are not getting/seeing the best out of our BIG money signings from this summer... that's where my concern lies, two years or so down the line... It's down to Fabian to improve these players, where is the evidence that any of them are showing incremental improvements? Weiffer has looked okay recently, but I'd look okay against the recent opposition.
This is surely about the currently successful business model providing the foundation for the success we are seeing on the pitch. As for big money signings, Georginio is performing as is, after his injury, O'Riley. Kadioglu settled in before his injury. Weiffer has performed well apart from one glaring exception. Gruda and Minteh need to step up but both are young.

As for FH improving them, he's had them for just 6 months in which the likes of Pedro, O'Riley, Minteh and a few others have been injured.

The system is working, the club is heading in the right direction. It could all come of the rails or we could go on to win a cup or finish in our highest ever position!

But as well as the business its led

I'd trust RDZ with the football model anyday over those coaches that Trust The Process

I've been thinking
Kosh - ask yourself this. If player's form can change over time. Do you think it is possible the "model" can flex and change over time?

If you accept that this is indeed possible, what position in the queue do you think you would be in to find this out?

The club has a way of organising things which have given it an edge over competitors. Sometimes this can be a big advantage, other times it may make no difference at all and yes things can still go wrong. It will take a lot more than not selling Ferguson and Enciso for £1/4 billion for things to start unravelling, which maybe why this is not something worth catastrophising over.

I think the long term vision is clearly there.

Let's say there are the players who are ready for a big bucks sale, potentially in the summer:
- Mitoma
- João Pedro
- Baleba
- Verbruggen
- van Hecke

Then those who could reach that level if they push on next season (remember how raw Baleba was just a year ago):
- Hinshelwood
- Ayari
- Rutter
- Kadioglu
- Minteh
- Gruda

And those who have stalled but are still worth something, even more if they can refind form:
- Ferguson
- Enciso
- Estupiñan
- Adingra

Then you look at players on loan who might be able to come back in and push the first team forward next season:
- Yalcouye
- Beadle
- Osman
- Buonanotte
- Barco

My main worry is how you keep them all happy. They won't all hit the big time but there's not a lot of dead weight in our squad.

Edit: oh, and a comparative lack of centre backs.

are we writing up o’Riley after a couple of starts since a long term injury?

For every Moises Caicedo there has been a Billy Arce. You can afford lots of Billy Arce’s to find the Moises Caicedo. Baleba and Joao Pedro alone is £200m worth of players. Add in £50m+ (at least) for Van Hecke and you’ve covered just 2024’s summer spend already. That’s before you’ve spoken about Bart, Mitoma or others. Stop worrying.

As I say, it really is, because negative feelings and worry about our “model” is coming off the back of two disappointing results, and had we won those games you’d almost certainly be crowing about our model and the success it is bringing us and this thread wouldn’t exist.

I don’t blame you, we’re all human, but May is when we’ll have a better idea about this current crop of first team players, and several years until we fully know about their potential and that of the squad.
Exactly…..I’ve watched enough of the Albion to not get carried away one way or the other (that doesn’t mean no excitement or disappointment)

Unfortunately he’d bankrupt the club, and still leave anyway soon enough
Yeh, I really don’t get some of the pining for RDZ. He was given a brilliant squad thanks to the club’s process, and, to be fair, he got the most out of them in 22-23. However, there’s no way we could’ve put that squad together without years of process that preceded his arrival.

Wasn’t Arce the conduit for Caicedo??
