The Japanese bid for 2022 was always likely to go against them having hosted only 20 years previously.Japan put a bid in for the 2022 WC which was won by Qatar - that would have been their 2nd WC so why couldn’t they bid for the Asian leg of the 2034 WC?
In 2010, The Japanese Football Association Bid team decided to concentrate solely on winning the right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup which they wouldn’t surely have done if it had been too soon after their joint hosting with South Korea in 2002?
Yes and in the new rotation Oceania and Asia’s had the right to host in 2034..
You're right, they could have bid for 2032, (2034?)
Australia should get it ,sadly ko times don't suit the rest of the worldToo recent a host - I was there for the group games in 2002 for the tournament which they shared with South Korea.
It's true that Germany hosted in 1974 and 2006 with a similar 32 year timescale between them, but the tournaments are now shared between all continents rather than just alternating between Europe and South America.
Australia is the country that missed out here in 2022 with ready-made stadia and infrastructure, a sport-loving public and tournament history.
It’s unbelievable that they got rid of Blatter because of all the corruption and shady deals that were going down and tarnishing Thiefa’s image, and then they get Infantino in who, if anything, seems to be worse!
The only positive thing is that, logistically*,Saudi is going to be a whole lot easier to get around than the next 2 multi country tournaments (*although that might not apply to those who have good reason to fear visiting a country with their human rights record being what it is).
Australia had an option for 2034 but they pulled out.Australia should get it ,sadly ko times don't suit the rest of the world
Why waste the money on a bid to so obviously lose itAustralia had an option for 2034 but they pulled out.
Agreed. I too heard that Norway were the only nation to object. Our FA, along with all the others it has to be said, simply rolled over. They've received 'assurances' apparently. Well that's all right then. There will be no slave labour, LGBTQIA+ fans will be welcomed with open arms, rainbow armbands will be accepted, and there will be loads to drink.Typical of FIFA but this also shows up how spineless the English FA are. They refused to object to the Qatar WC in the face of clear human rights violations and will not stand up to FIFA now the Saudi's have brought this tournament. That's fine if that's what they align themselves with only it's not is it because every weekend they're coercing footballers to take the knee and wear rainbow armbands. My understanding is that only the Norwegian FA stood up against FIFA's decision, respect to them
Not for me, I will be dead by then....Another bloody winter world cup!!
Ahh but remember...by including Saudi in the football family we can influence them to see the error of their ways...they will soon include rainbow laces on their national flag ()Madness. How the FA can support and promote things like the Rainbow Laces campaign and then also back the Saudi bid is beyond me.
Money money money. It's all it is. It's all it ever is.
I won't be watching.
Indeed they did and one of the reasons they didn't take up the option is that they knew they wouldn't win it. After all, are FIFA reps going to accept brown envelopes of cash from Oz or brown suitcases of cash from the beheaders ?Australia had an option for 2034 but they pulled out.
Hopefully it will put a black hole in their financesDidn't watch quasar won't watch Saudi.
I will be 65 and like the last WC, or the next two I can safely say I won’t give a shit either, if it wasn’t for the Gentleman of B&HA I’d have zero interest in FoolsballI'll be 85 by then, so possibly won't give a s***
