Are we still doing these? I'll get the ball rolling anyway. My ratings judging on what I saw in real time, entirely possible those with other angles or better attention spans will differ.
Bart 6.5: Not much more he could've done from what I saw. Made a really good stop towards the end of the first half.
Lamptey 7.5 MoM: Comfortably our best player IMO. Beautiful finish, looked to take on the defenders and didn't really get exposed defensively. His link-up play was superb in the second half. Mavididi got a bit of space when he came on but he will against most full-backs in this division as he is absolutely rapid.
Dunk 6: Certainly improved on Thursday but he is obviously still getting himself back up to fitness. I'd really expect him to be the kind of captain to be grabbing people by the throat (metaphorically) and making sure we see games out. It's obviously not just his responsibility so I'm not saying I blame him for the result or anything, just an observation.
Van Hecke 6: I get the impression he might have been caught out for their first which is a shame as he was really solid and composed as usual in the first half. Fairplay to him for coming straight over and holding his hands up at the end. I have no doubt he'll come out of the last couple of games fired up for Sunday.
Pervis 6: Some wayward passing at times, but ultimately got the assist (pretty sure it was unintentional but they all count) and forced a very good save in the first half. Got a free kick on target as well, which is good going for us.
Baleba 6: He has to cut the silly bookings out, we missed his presence in the second half, though Wieffer did have a good game. I don't blame Hurzeler at all for withdrawing him.
Ayari 6.5: I really like him. I still can't quite put my finger on exactly what kind of player he is, but we certainly miss him when he's not playing. Always hassling the opposition, keeps the ball well and tested the keeper today. I think he's going to be a star.
Georginio: 6.5: His work rate was exceptional as always. Did a superb job of covering Tariq in the first half, allowing him to bomb forward.
Joao Pedro 5: Went down too easily a couple of times, which apparently gave Attwell licence to not give him anything. Just didn't really fall his way today, not through lack of effort mind.
Mitoma 5: Quiet. They didn't give him a lot of space and were effective in taking him out of the game. Same as Joao Pedro really- Justin and Kristiansen just dealt with them well.
Ferguson 4: Disappointing. I really don't want to pile in on him or be dismissive or anything, but it feels like he blew his chance today. Failed to get hold of the ball, didn't seem willing to work to win it back and the decision not to take that shot in the first half was baffling. I hope we don't give up on him, but it's going to take a loan spell in the Championship I think. Dirty Leeds would be perfect for him.
Of the subs, Wieffer gave a very good account of himself which is a big positive we can take away. Won some big tackles, looked comfortable on the ball and got the assist. The booking he received was ludicrous- it was right in front of us and clearly wasn't even a foul. Great to see Minteh get on the scoresheet, a well-taken and composed finish, but he really has to learn to get his arse in gear and track back. Don't really have anything to say on O'Riley, can't say I noticed him much. Seems to me he is more of a number 10 than a 6/8? Welbz should've been on 10-15 earlier but obviously we have to do what we can to keep him fresh. Gutted for Igor after his good spell of form, hope he's able to move on from that quickly. Crazy decision to keep hold of the ball in that position.
Leicester fans made the Amex seem loud until the obvious happened, bloody awful home support even with their shitty drum.
I love that it's so easy to just get talking to random people amongst our fans at away games, the boy and I met and chatted to some great people today. I know the Europe songs are a bit of fun but I can't get on board with them tbh and it really felt like we were setting ourselves up for it again. Let's please not do that against Palace unless we have an unassailable lead (6-0 in the 96th?)
I think we're close to being really good but we are going to have to 'suffer' at times to get there. It's obviously gutting and going into Palace on the back of two disappointing outcomes isn't ideal, but this is where the gaffer and the captain need to pick the boys up and get them up for it. Results like today are frustrating but we all move on soon enough. Doing something like that against them, however, isn't going to be quite so easy to move on from.
Side-note: saw elsewhere about Steeley helping one of our fans out today; he also sent someone over to give his shirt to a young lad sat in front of us at the end, not making a fuss or a big show about it or anything, just doing it because he's a top bloke.
