Hmm might be some merit in this now. The chance he laid off to Mitoma was criminal - a decent centre forward with the goal at his mercy would bury it.
Yep.

"Old Fergie" absolutely smashes that home.

Well 70mins today and made some poor decisions - also not enough effort in fighting for the ball or shaking off defenders.

Im not knocking him but you seem to think all it needs is Fergie getting on the pitch is all it takes.

Its not that simple - he is in a physical and mental place that still needs some work before he is back to his previous level. That’s a process and it’s one that has been happening since he returned from his operation with building up minutes slowly.
I agree. He's put down a marker now for what he's like as a starter. I haven't seen any of the match yet, but from your comments, it sounds like it's down to Hűrzeler to sort his decision making and tenacity.

Yes exactly that.

He passed to Mitoma what for him should have been a tap in as I said on the match thread at the time. I referred to it above as ‘poor decision-making’ but I believe that’s down to a lack self-confidence - he’s been out a full match time for so long, it will take a while before his head is in the right place.

I’ve seen this before in players bedding in to new teams - for all intents and purposes, Ferguson is in a new team now - we no longer have Gross or Lallana (two players he relied on) and Buonanotte gone from CAM - not sure what the answer is but piling expectations and pressure onto a 20 year old isn’t the answer, especially when he’s probably piling it on to himself in buckets.

Should be loaned out to a League 2 team in January.

Always been very positive about Ferguson it feels he needs a change of scenery. Ironic the man of the match is likely to be off in January. Two big mistakes by defenders but still think having midfield of Weifer and O'Riley is a problem. . Wonder what TB is thinking having spent £200 million.

I genuinely wasn’t aware he was on the pitch for large stretches of the game. That can’t be good, can it?

When I did see him, he was generally trotting gently either straight toward the opposition goal, or trotting gently away again.

I’m genuinely baffled by this version of Evan, who’s clearly either carrying an injury or going through one of those growth phases where he has to be careful with himself. All we can do is have patience, but I wouldn’t say he’s first team ready in his current form.

I just want to see a bit of intensity and effort tbh. Without that he’s got no chance.

Welbeck presses with so much more energy. I've noticed Joao has been pretty 'lazy' with this as well the last few games, but he normally makes up for it with his skill and creativity

Was at the far end from where I stood, but 💯 agree. No striker confident in their ability, dead centre of goal passes it to a team mate at more of an acute angle.

They fire off the shot.

And if it is confidence gone? he shouldn't be on pitch imho

Evan’s problem is he seems not to know whether he should be either an intuitive finisher or a strong target man able to hold off defenders and free up the creative players around him

I think he needs to work out what he is (or we need to work out what his best role is) and either work on the finishing side or hit the gym and bulk up
