72k posts and finally we see a post that isn't shite.
Well, you're both usually on the "am I reading a football opinion or getting a brain aneurysm" spectra of things.
Loan to Celtic seems good though, but I'd prefer him playing in a real league.

Can understand the speculation on whether Ferguson will be on the move in January based on his need for game time as a young player but I don’t understand the pile on with his level of performance. Most of 2023/4 Evan was either ill or injured or recovering from an ankle operation - You can’t play 90mins of EPL football with post-viral fatigue either - exercise can actually make it worse, it has to be managed carefully.

That said, I don’t believe Ferguson is far behind Welbeck and Pedro as a player - different strokes for different players but in 2022/3 and at the beginning of 2023/4, his shooting was sublime. A fully fit and peak conditioned Ferguson is still one of the best young strikers in Europe - he just needs that opportunity to kick start where he left off before becoming ill and injured. I hope he will still find that at Brighton with patience and training but a 6 month loan in January to finish the season might not be a bad idea tbh.

(Sadly) West Ham will be looking for another no.9 in January to boost the squad after Antonio’s accident and maybe Evan will find his form again with a team who still leads with a traditional no9 up front? (without an option to buy of course!). It’s whether any Club is willing to take a punt on a striker who is struggling to score at the moment. No1s and No9s are probably the most important positions on the pitch where you want your players to be in peak performance.
How can a player be struggling to score when he never plays?
The one time he gets more than five minutes he scores a great goal against Wolves.
Super Fab then hardly plays him again

With the loan idea my uncertainty was “where can he go were he will def get minutes” does feel like that might be West Ham now

Letting Ferguson go would be like chopping off your toes so a pair of tight shoes would fit, it's up to the manager to get him to adapt to how he wants to play because the talent is already there in bundles.
There's absolutely no point in comparing him with Welbeck because Welbeck has had 15 more years to adapt his game and done it magnificently.
I'd be gutted if he goes, more so than when Michael Robinson left, and I was in bits back then.

Would be madness to let him go on loan, with only Danny and Pedro left behind to play that position, both who have been injured already this season.
If the players don’t actually pass or cross to him, then he won’t score.
We saw against Wolves what he can do, given the ball.

Starting a revolution from my bed
He will come good, I’m pretty sure of it. His finishing and ball-striking will see to that.

It’s just a case of ‘how good?’

His hold up play needs work and I’m confident he’ll develop in that area well. He just needs to learn how to use his body better. When he first came into the side, his hold-up play was good because central defenders weren’t sure how to shape up against him in physical tussles. They’ve clearly all watched enough footage of him now to know how to manage him. It’s now on Evan and the coaches to evolve that area of his game. He’s naturally strong enough and has an imposing frame, just needs to know how to use it better. I think that will come with training and experience.

His out of possession work needs work and that’s where I’m less confident he’ll develop well. Most modern managers need their strikers to be able to press with intensity and intelligence. I’m not convinced Ferguson’s stamina allows him to complete the high amount of intense sprints needed per 90 whilst not fatiguing in other areas of his game.

I’m not accusing him of being lazy or of not closing down - I think he does do it. The trouble is it’s either a little laboured or leads to him being tired in other phases of the game.

Whether that’s to do with the mysterious illness or not, I’d love to know.

Either way, he needs to improve on one of these two areas (hold up play or out of possession work), or he’ll struggle to get a starting role in many sides without being able to do one of them well.

But it’ll come. Hopefully starting today!

And I suppose you are at the squad training sessions day in day out are you?

No of course you are not - if you think the decision about whether to start a player solely relies upon on how many goals they scored in the previous game then you have a lot to learn about professional football my friend. Even a striker needs to be good in other areas of the pitch, have the right mentality and confidence - Ferguson’s performance had dropped off long before Hürzeler took over.

If Ferguson isn’t getting as many minutes as he likes it is because he has to fight like everyone else on the team for a starting spot and clearly not yet showing the hugely qualified team of first 11 coaches that his performance level at the moment merits it.

I know you want the narrative to be anti-Hürzeler here but it really isn’t. Hürzeler has repeatedly said there is a place for Evan on the team and is not looking to deliberately sideline him as you keep suggesting.

That doesn’t answer the question of how is he meant to score when hardly plays?
What I happen to think of FH’s performance so far is neither here or there.

Looks like it’s enciso going out on loan, not Ferguson. Guessing moder to be sold too as Gomez coming in.

Squad still inflated but we always have min 4 injuries.

Big chance for Ferguson today.

Much closer to the side that should’ve played against Fulham. Hopefully Ferguson gets his second of the season for us.

Hopefully he'll get some decent opportunities with Mitoma Rutter and Pedro around him

Hopefully they'll sometimes remember to ping over a decent early cross rather than re-cycling the ball to the opposite wing/back to Bart.

Well 70mins today and made some poor decisions - also not enough effort in fighting for the ball or shaking off defenders.

Im not knocking him but you seem to think all it needs is Fergie getting on the pitch is all it takes.

Its not that simple - he is in a physical and mental place that still needs some work before he is back to his previous level. That’s a process and it’s one that has been happening since he returned from his operation with building up minutes slowly.

Send him out on loan please, just don’t play him again at the moment. He was useless today, DW contributed more within 10 mins of coming on
