Based on how we've developed since Ashworth left. And no, I don't have a clue what the job entails, and I have no solid evidence to back up my opinion. But we certainly haven't got worse since his departure have we? So I would argue that as is so often the case with senior appointments at the Albion these days Weir is an upgrade on his predecessor.
I’d say, based on what we’ve seen from the summer splurge on players, it’s a bit jump to suggest Weir’s an upgrade.

True, but His reputation was massively enhanced by his association with us.

He went from managing player development for the FA, to Director of football at United in 6 years.

The major event in this transition, was working for Barber and Bloom.
I’m not sure I agree with that. I think he was a really well known, established name before he joined us. He did a good job for us, and that always helps, but we didn’t turn him into one of the most sought after SDs… he was already there. We were just another name on his CV, and offered stability he’s not had since he left us.

Hmmm but our recruitment going into our biggest ever season was poor, and the medical department quite frankly a disgrace. Also the women’s side has been in turmoil for a while

I was quite vocal that I thought Weir had been promoted beyond his ability and because of a matter of convenience but let’s see.

He wasn't a sporting director at the FA.

Of course he was highly regarded for the work at the FA. Bloom is only interested in the best.
But that was a totally different role to the one he took at United.

The exposure he got from working with us was crucial in his career development.

Both Newcastle and United fans were crowing about him joining them, because they believed they were getting our recruitment success.

Not because they wanted to develop pathways for their academies.

He got the role at the FA on account of doing the same job he did for us, but for WBA. Being pedantic about his job title doesn’t prove your point particularly. The fact is he was very well known prior to joining us. He was the coup for us at the time, not the other way around, no matter what the current situation may suggest.

What would you call spending £200m and not really upgrading your first team?

I would call it a massive investment in our premier league squad.
Which was exactly what was needed.

You may have noticed that we have had our best ever start, despite having one of the worst injury lists in the division.

We have also invested in some of the highest rated young talents available.

But sure a Splurge...
