I apologise for the abusive answers you've received. The worst thing about NSC is how we treat newcomers, especially those who have the audacity to immediately start threads that go against popular opinion. It does bring out the worst of our inbred yokel tendencies: ("Arrrr! 'Eee be Palace!")

However whilst I might argue with the tone of some of the responses I certainly agree with the sentiment. No, I think it's a terrible idea, I think it's even worse than when Whitehawk FC wanted to rebrand themselves as 'Brighton City'. We are Brighton AND Hove, both the city and the football team. The two are inextricably linked, have been for decades, and I hope they always remain that way. I hope your idea never gets further than a bit of internet talk. Rebranding us won't make one iota of difference either to our national or international profiles. Utter waste of time and money.

TL: DR ?

Two words. f***, and off.

I propose every game from now until the end of the season we adopt a new song that simply chants "Brighton and Hove, Brighton and Hove 'ello, 'ello, Brighton and Hove, Brighton and Hove 'ello, 'ello"

Sorry to derail the thread but I fear your request is going to dilute some of the attention needed on my petition to annex the Boundary Road (both sides) into a free port, hopefully we can both coexist and good luck 👍🏻

You have my signature mate, never trusted those Hovians.
Me neither. But then as residents of Hove we are Hovites actually.

My idea is to simplify the city’s name from Brighton & Hove to just Seagulls... The change is about creating a unified and stronger identity for the city as a whole…I’ve also emailed Paul Barber to make sure the club would be okay with this idea... I believe the city of the Seagulls sounds more streamlined and powerful while still preserving Hove’s unique identity as part of something bigger.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, whether you agree or not.

Yes, totally agree - excellent idea! 👍

The most curious thing..
We could always rename Brighton as East Hove (Actually).

I thought it was officially pronounced "Bri'ove" anyway.

This might not be a such bad idea you know. Its a chance for a total city rebrand complete with a half arsed "knocked up in 5 minutes" logo. It can be done;

As a lifelong Brighton fan, season ticket holder, and someone who deeply cares about our city, I’ve also emailed Paul Barber to make sure the club would be okay with this idea. If the club were against it, I wouldn’t go any further with it.

Reading your post it seems that you haven't yet had a reply from the club. Given that you've already started a petition, which is now out of your control, isn't it a bit late to not 'go any further with it'?

Personally, I like it being Brighton & Hove

Unless the OP is getting his 1st April jinks in early, I can only commend him. I always view NSC as a crucible of debate and opposing opinions, where ideas are tested via multiple different viewpoints.

Not with this one though, the OP has actually managed to unite the diverse community that is NSC!!

I think that in itself shows the merit of their plan.
