[Albion] Is it normal for 30% of our support to leave when we go 2 goals down?

Yep, agreed. Which was kind of what I was getting at in my clumsy drunken ramblings.

I’m confused by this ‘pain to get to’ thing about Fulham though. It’s a 5 minute train from Putney to Clapham Junction and then direct to Brighton. It couldn’t be much easier for an away game, could it?
Fine, if you live in Brighton but a lot of fans live a lot further afield ( myself included ) and a few minutes gained before the end can save a lot of time later in the journey, when there are key connections.
When Iwobi scored the 3rd it was a dead game. Time to go. Everyone knew it. I always stay to clap a good performance but I am not a performing seal who feels obliged to stay and clap every single game, irrespective of performance.

Someone who doesn't go to most away games preaches to those that do. Whilst banging on about the bad old days. Peak NSC after a loss right there.
'Peak NSC' is someone piling on with a derogatory comment about someone who doesn't go to most away games preaching to those that do.

Back in your box, Swiveller.

People always used to leave early during the dark days when the game was obviously lost.
I once left at half time, when we were 4-0 down, at home, to Oxford in the FA Cup - joke was on me though, as my dad stayed and he had my car keys, so I spent the whole of the second half sitting on the bonnet of my car, like a gargoyle hood ornament!!!

If there was a mass exodus on 87 mins with the score at 2-1, I'd be FULLY with you in thinking that's poor.

But come on; 3-1 down with 3 minutes normal time to go? The chances at that point of getting something from the game have to be 2% at best.

I get the frustration (to an extent) but feel you are pissing in the wind with this thread a little.

Just double checked my story, it appears we were 3-0 down at half time and went on to lose by that same score at full time. It was 1982, the year before we went to The Final...

I still left early though... :D

I stayed, but it was fairly obvious from the minute the second goal went in, we weren't going to get anything.

For 10 minutes after the equaliser it looked like a formality that we would be the ones pushing on to win it.
Then the momentum completely changed.
Van Hecke coming off after being forced into a yellow card, seemingly changed everything.

People leave because they know it's futile.
It wasn't just the score or the timing, it was that wehadn't mounted a decent attack in 15 minutes.

Is it normal for 30% of our support to leave when we go 2 goals down?

As someone who rarely does away games anymore (1-2 a season) I was a bit shocked by this. Is this what happens now?

Especially at a ground that is comparable to getting back to Brighton as the Amex is. I kind of assumed it would be different with our hardcore away support.

Really can’t remember anyone leaving Rochdale / Plymouth / Carlisle etc with 10 minutes to go when we started losing.

Thank God these people weren’t with us in those days, I guess.
You're right, you ARE an arrogant prat!

Get out of the smoke on a school night isn't fun

They didn’t though. I don’t ever remember people doing this at Northern away trips when we were really shit. And certainly not anything like that percentage of the support. It’s the second easiest ground to get to for us in the whole country (in fact it’s arguably the easiest). I found it quite sad to watch to be honest. Football has changed so much.
Three factors:

Away matches in North would have a much higher proportion of supporters travelling by coach or on specific timed trains that would make it pointless to leave early;

Further distances will tend to attract keener supporters

The inclination to have instant gratification is more pronounced; we simply don’t tolerate failure as patiently. Read any of the new player threads for evidence.

Anecdotally, far more stayed at this fixture at 2-0 last season when it was in afternoon and maybe less pressure to get home. Only gave up when 3rd scored.

Don’t think too much should be made of one instance. Let’s see what it’s like on Sunday.

I didn't leave the ground but switched the game off from home when it went to 3-1.
You're also comparing apples and pears when looking at last night's situation and the dark days.

Sometimes you just think 'f*** this shit' and want to go do something else with your life. Coming away from wins i want to put the radio on, listen to the phone-ins, bask in the glory - and after crap midweek defeats to tinpot nothing clubs i like to ignore that football exists, and put on a new album or something i really fancy listening to. (the new Blood Incantation album is excellent, if you like weird proggy jazzy death metal!)

Sounds really easy. Unfortunately not living in Brighton there was also the delight of a bus replacement service between Lewes and Eastbourne which just topped off the evening.
