Is it normal for 30% of our support to leave when we go 2 goals down?

As someone who rarely does away games anymore (1-2 a season) I was a bit shocked by this. Is this what happens now?

Especially at a ground that is comparable to getting back to Brighton as the Amex is. I kind of assumed it would be different with our hardcore away support.

Really can’t remember anyone leaving Rochdale / Plymouth / Carlisle etc with 10 minutes to go when we started losing.

Thank God these people weren’t with us in those days, I guess.

Tbh it’s pretty normal for all clubs I think. It’s cold, dark, late at night and most folk have a long trip home, work the next day and we were playing shit.

Human nature sometimes is just to write it off and head off home, I don’t blame them either really, home and warm at a reasonable time is always a nice prospect.

Couldn’t leave those games early because the coach didn’t set off until everyone was in, so we had to grin and bear it.

They didn’t though. I don’t ever remember people doing this at Northern away trips when we were really shit. And certainly not anything like that percentage of the support. It’s the second easiest ground to get to for us in the whole country (in fact it’s arguably the easiest). I found it quite sad to watch to be honest. Football has changed so much.

I left on 93 once Fergie predictably put the free kick a metre over. I’ll be there on Sunday, more fool me.

Easy to get to, so easy to get home when cold, and wet through. As I pointed out, northern games having travelled hundreds of miles usually meant a coach or booked trains.

They did and so did I, worst I recall was Crewe away 1995, we were 4-0 down within something like 30 mins, the stewards wouldn’t let us out until half time then 60% of the Albion away went to the local pub (until it was time for the coach home) or home.
we were begging them to let us out.

Leaving on 93 with seconds to go with them having a goal kick is very different to leaving on 86 when we’ve just conceded. The game was done by the time you left, it wasn’t when they scored the second.

There is nothing sanctimonious about it, football ‘supporting’ has definitely changed.

Come on, obviously nothing at all has changed in that respect. Dreadful weather in mid December, just gone 2 goals down with a long journey home (considering the time of night) in the 87th minute? Of course lots will choose to write the game off and leave, as football fans always have done

Mate, that is nothing. Apparently some Albion fans missed the first 20 minutes because they were more interested in filling their face at the Ottoman. Can you imagine? 😆

Dreadful weather!? It was about 10C and dry at the end of the game. Who the hell follows Brighton away, as long as the weather is nice?

A long journey home!? Seriously?

I find it really sad that a large number of long-standing Albion couldn’t get tickets to our first ever European away games due to not being as ‘loyal’ as these fans who leave because we’re losing and it’s raining.
