[Help] Stair lifts

Any recommendations for a company reasonably close to Ringmer BN8 that can install and then rent out a stairlift for my elderly mum who can’t manage the stairs anymore.
Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated

I haven't got any company recommendations but have you tried going to the local Council about your predicament with your mum. Maybe they can source a grant for these types of things. If its dangerous for your mum to use the stairs they will look into this for you and her. West Sussex were really good for my wife, helped with loads of things.

Before we moved to a bungalow, we lived in a house and got a stairlift through Clearwell Mobility as I couldn't do the stairs. We bought it outright, but it looks like they do have a rental option:

Speak to your local occupational therapy team at the local council and apply for a disabled facilities grant. They will inspect the house and see what modifications may need to be done to help her, and then help with some of the cost.

My father had one fitted but couldn’t get on with it. Drove him up the wall.

Not sure if it is appropriate for your mum or budget but I was reading recently that more people are choosing to install 'Home Lifts' which take up a small amount of space a bit like these - https://www.stannah.com/our-homelifts

Spoken to jevs as I've just had one fitted in the last year.

Before the person who needs it moved in, I used it to take the washing up and down the stairs.

My brother had one installed in the summer. He sadly had terminal cancer, so rented on a monthly basis. I think it was something like £1700 to buy outright or £45 a month to rent. I was very surprised how cheap it was, compared to 20 years ago when my mum had one fitted for £5,000 purchase, plus the inevitable monthly service contract.

My brother was in Surrey so probably a bit too far away to use the same company. As ever get a couple of quotes, and fingers crossed it works out for you.

My neighbour had one installed recently and I offered her £5 to have a go. She said, "Make it £7.50 and I might take you up on it."

On a slight tangent, my Dad bought a pretty expensive road legal (I think) electric buggy about 4 years ago. Knowing him it will have been bells and whistles. He used it no more than a couple of dozen times, none in the last 6 months as he’s now in dementia care.

Mum would like to sell it, which we will be doing so soon. Off hand I don’t know too much more about it, nor what he paid for it, let alone any idea of what it’s worth.

Should by any chance anyone have any interest at all, pm me and Ill try and find out more for you.

I guess one issue would be someone collecting it as it’s up near Burgess Hill.

Isn’t one of those lifts in the corner much better? Actually you may lose a bedroom and probably need a large house thinking about it.

They are very expensive, need a lot of maintenance are a quite a new technology.

Stairlift very mature and simple technology, not that expensive (if only one flight of stairs) and unlikely to go wrong.

You also don't lose any space...

( only an expensive solid oak hand rail :angry:

Orange Badge company at the Cockshut in Lewes. Fitted one at my parents house in Lewes. Also removed it following their deaths last year. Good, fast professional service.

My mum bought one outright about a year ago and it was not cheap. Anyway, the point of my post is that I think you can apply for reduced council tax if you can show your home has been adapted for disability use. Be worthwhile phoning up your local council and also google it.
