Scored from 25 yards against John Keeley when he was at Wick I think when about 17. I miss hit it slightly and curled away from him top bins called me a jammy c@@@ after game.

Possibly same season, John Crumplin playing RB for Selsey went to clear ball up the line. I've slid in and he's booted bottom of my foot. Rolled around a bit then told ref not to book me as only kid. Came up to me in club house and said as he'd saved me 7 quid I owed him a drink. Had to get my dad to buy it as I was only 17

I think my most memorable moment was a works cricket match against our sales force. A gob shite had just whacked the ball over my head for a six and I reckoned that I could have caught it at a stretch. So I bowled him exactly the same ball and caught it one handed about eight feet off the ground.
Other than a brighton league invitation cup winners medal as a goalie my sporting career sucked although in my old age I have done pretty well at bowls.

30 years ago I was playing darts for The Albion*

I was feeling cocky and it showed (4 pints down).

I was up against their Hot Boy.

He opened with 180.

Somehow, maybe it meant a lot to him, and my reaction rattled him.

He fluffed his finished.

Me? Double 14. Bosh.

Anyway I won the best of 3, 2-0.

That was Sporting Genius. Fact.

A interesting story about best sporting achievements.
I won a trip to Barcelona when I was doing sales work.Met the group at Gatwick and was guided by a bloke named Pete who I thought I recognised but couldn’t place him so didn’t think to much more of it.There was a chap who was telling me he was a semi pro footballer,county swimmer scratch golfer etc
During a conversation in a restaurant the question came about about everyone’s sporting achievements
Most where fairly humble responses until it came to said show off who rattled of various high points of a varied sporting career all of which impressed a lot of those present.
When he had finished his talk he turned to our guide and said What about you Pete can you match that lot
Peter’s response was 6-67 in my debut for England v Australia in 1993
Take a bow Peter Such
Talk about shut someone up
Knew I recognised him🤣

He also once made a 52 ball duck. That would take some beating.

The gloss was slightly knocked off those figures in England’s innings by some unknown bleach-blonde Aussie turning his first ball so much that Gatting had to do a double take to check the keeper’s glove hadn’t dislodged the bails.

Reminds me of an accountancy training course I was on. Sat opposite a Scottish guy at lunch with a rugby jersey on - oh, I asked, do you play rugby? Yeah I do, was his reply. Oh, who do you play for? Scotland and the British Lions! It was this guy, John Beattie! I got to know him quite well as we toiled through a few such courses over the years, but a real foot in mouth introduction!

University football, Royal Holloway mens 4th XI, University of London Football League Division 1 - went unbeaten through the season won Div 1 title 3 out of 4 seasons. Dispatching our 2nd and 3rd XIs in the process.

For context each Uni was only allowed 1 team in the Premier division so having 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI in Div 1 showed the strength of our football.

Also won the University of London League Cup in each of those seasons. One particularly bad tempered game against UCL (posh doctors mainly) in the 2002 semi final saw me score from the half way line a la Beckham to equalise at 2-2 and take the game to extra time where we were unable to find a winner. Went to penalties and I scored a re taken pen (GK moved off his line and saved my effort) put it in the same place to send us through to the final which was held at Fulham's training ground. We won the final 3-0.

Took 7-3 for school team, scored 7 in a 10-7 win against Varndean, came last (by a fair distance) at my one and only ever race in the 100 meter hurdles at Withdean sports day (thrown in as a last minute replacement).

Three aside game in the gym at school, against a teachers' team. Their rush keeper misdirected a rollout to me. I instinctively hit the ball first time, keeping it low, hitting the bench, and putting us 1-0 up. The whole gym audience went wild. We went on to .. er ... lose 2-3, but for a moment, for the only time in my life, I had an idea of what it felt like to score a meaningful goal. Pupils winning against teachers wasn't meant to happen.

This will probably be gibberish to most people here, but maybe one or two might appreciate it.

Sailing race round the Isle of Wight, in about 2004 probably. Very crowded and chaotic pre start, with boats of all sizes jostling around, pro and amateur.

I was helming a 48 ft Swan yacht, on starboard tack on a really good lie for the line and gun.

A much bigger fancier and faster racing yacht comes zooming down, and tries its luck at crossing my path. But they’re on port tack so I have right of way. Even though I’m just an everyday cruiser and they’re clearly a serious professional-racing outfit.

Massive shout of ‘Starboard!’ at them, and they bear away, thus screwing up their own start. Look over, and their helm gives me a sheepish smile and wave of acknowledgement. It’s Ellen MacArthur.

This thread reminded me of my grandad's feat of getting 5 wickets in 5 balls for Sunnyside against Nuthurst on 1st August 1954, our family still has the ball on an engraved plaque so I know the exact date!

For myself, probably winning a few football finals in the Mid Sussex League for Hassocks in the 90's and getting a player of the season award one season. In golf I have won a few board comps at Pyecombe, broke par there for the only time in the early 90's (in about 2,000 attempts I would guess!) and this year being a member of the team who won the Sussex Inter Club Handicap Trophy.

I once won the ‘most improved player’ award for my club cricket team. Do you think they were trying to tell me I was really sh*t the year(s) before??
