Looks terrible. Have several friends with E cars and none of them would have another. Depreciation costs huge,Range nowhere near as good as promised, Very expensive and time consuming if have to charge up away from home. 74p per KWH compared with home cost approx 30p.
Maybe a few years ago – and maybe they picked the wrong models – but that's not the case any more and won't be in the future. Used values are getting stronger all the time – and so is demand for used EVs; range in a lot of models is easy to get close to the quoted figure (albeit normally in the summer); many EVs are price comparative with their ICE counterparts (see, MGs and many Vauxhalls) and there are deals to be had on public charging.

I'm no EV evangelist, but that list of complaints is nothing that won't be overcome in the months and years ahead.

I dunno, at least it isn't an identikit SUV large square box on wheels. Nearly every manufacturer, including Jaguar, seem hell bent on producing vehicles that you just need to stick a turret on, and then you can use them to invade Poland.
That's pretty much what I think it does look like!

Look like it's probably land-mine proof, but guess it can't carry many troops!

The launch of this concept car is all over the media. Fantastic work. Stunning publicity.

The people behind the strategy are going to get massive pay rises for this.

The lesson? If you have a traditional British brand, do some gammon baiting and social media together with the right wing media will pick it up and it will spread to the mainstream media like wildfire.

So many will want to get their ‘opinions’ heard, you’ll reach your customer demographic in hours.

Blimey, I hadn't seen the front! I still think it's not that bad, definitely not the typical 'square box on wheels', although I wouldn't have one even if I could afford it. It reminds me a bit of a modernised version of Lady Penelope's pink Roller from Thunderbirds!

Anyway, I don't remember any/many other car launches generating so much interest on NSC, so we're all talking about it, even those of us who aren't interested. If this reaction has been general (I'm not as a rule interested in car launches so I don't know) the creatives at Jaguar must be creaming themselves.

I didn't have quite the same reflexive hate as some people did on here at first glance, but the more I see of this:

The worse it gets. And could they not use a modern computer to render their images? It looks like a low-poly PS2 render. The earlier comment about it looking like it's out of GTA (and GTA 3 at that) is spot on.

I'd guess that it looks a bit less totally flat and boxy in reality rather than from dead straight on in a 2d picture.

I'm increasingly coming around to it, if only because it seems to annoy people. If I had £100,000 plus to spend on a car (and I very much don't) I'd buy one just to irritate the people who are mithering about how it doesn't look like an e-type. I've always preferred the XJS anyway.

Probably not in pink though. I wonder how it'd look in British Racing Green? :lolol:

I've worked in the industry for nearly 25 years and I've certainly never known anything like it – internally or externally (as I said, what kind of product launch remains front page news for weeks?). I think there are a few different factors: it's not just a car launch, it's essentially a brand re-start. A brand that was/is iconic, especially in the UK (I'm not sure what the impact has been elsewhere in the world) and that has now essentially been wiped from history within Jaguar. Then there's the price point and the noticeable shift in what will now be Jaguar cars. I remember talking to a few of the guys there about a year/18 months ago and them saying we would be surprised – turns out they were bang on!

Of course, everything about the whole episode was going to be controversial – the messaging, the colours, the new leaper and branding and clearly the cars themselves. Everything about this whole campaign has been designed to shock and, in a lot of cases, outrage. Clearly the jury is out about any of the production cars, but they will need to be something special for the brand to succeed. Whatever happens – and whatever it looks like – I can't wait to drive the thing!

The problem with setting out a marketing campaign to annoy white middle aged men, is that their current customer base is middle aged men (I have no opinion about their skin colour, but if black middle aged men are driving them, they will presumably be as cross as white ones). It is often a bad idea to start a campaign looking for new customers, by alienating the old ones.

Jaguar's reputation is built on sleek, stylish, a bit flash, cars for the rich and successful. As reputations go, it's not a bad one for a manufacturer of expensive cars. The big problem is that the cars no longer match the reputation.

Instead of doing what they can to ditch that reputation, they ought to be improving the quality of their cars so that they can go back to justifying it.

By ‘gammon’, I am not referring to ‘middle aged white men’. I’m referring to mainly elderly, white, heterosexual, uneducated men who use emotion to make decisions and don’t have the ability for critical thought.

I really don’t think these folks would ever buy a new Jaguar but do align themselves with the brand because of it’s link to ‘Britishness’.

The marketing campaign was set out to garner attention which it has clearly done. I don’t know whether it has alienated potential buyers or not but I’d really doubt that the sort of frothing, flag shagging reform voter guilty of naive generational relativism because ‘everythink was so much better back then’ who were up in arms about the ‘woke’ teaser ‘without a car’ would be a target consumer for a ‘woke’ electric car.

is it that much more mad than this? the Rolls Royce Boat tail. 3 sold for £30m each. this is a real world example but I bet the drawing was very similar to the jaGUar.
Knock these out for £100k and they will race off shelves.
This fucker is even in pink!

As of the end of October 2024, Jaguar had registered just over 15,000 cars in the UK in 2024. In comparison, 25 other brands had registered more, 15 of which had total registration figures of 50k+. And it's not just down to the company running out of stock – I've just grabbed a copy of an old magazine from the end of 2016 and the equivalent figure for that year is 29,397 (again, there are LOADS of brands who shifted more).

My point is that Jaguar has been on the slide for years – and was only going in one direction without a drastic shift. Rightly or wrongly it can't depend on what customers it has left because a) there aren't enough and b) they weren't buying the products that were available anyway. The quality of recent Jaguar's is one of the least of its problems – they were fine!

In your opinion which, from the information below, Jaguar will not care one jot about. As a reminder, concept cars are well, concepts. They are rarely built as production cars. The new Jaguar (released next year) might take a number of design elements from the concept but will most likely look nothing like it.

Have several friends with E cars and none of them would have another.
There have been a number of people buying EV’s who have been seduced by the ‘fashion’, ‘speed’ or ‘technology’ elements of them without considering the practicality issues enough.

Depreciation costs are huge.
Only on new or just used vehicles. There are some outstanding deals on all sorts of used EVs out there.

Range nowhere near as good as promised.
Exactly the same issue as ICE car’s promised MPGs. No surprise there.

Very expensive and time consuming if have to charge up away from home. 74p per KWH compared with home cost approx 30p.
If you are away from home often, an EV is not for you because it’s about the same cost as a very fuel efficient diesel to ‘fill up’. However, people should be able to find commercial fast chargers (150 kWh+) under 70p and home charge costs for well under 10p (Octopus Intelligent Go is 7p per KWH).

Jaguar is moving all electric for a reason. I imagine they want to attract a new generation. From the reaction of boomers to their new direction, I’d suggest that they are confident that they are heading in the right direction rather than trying to please a dying market.

I know little about cars, but as an Indian brand, it doesn’t look too bad.

Yours is post number 45.

I suspect the Jag ad campaign isn't quite at this level yet...
