My immediate thought is that it looks like an off brand car you'd find in Grand Theft Auto.

As has been already said, it's a concept car, I doubt the basic shape will change much but some of the finer/weirder details will definitely go by the time of production.

I'll stick with my XF Sportbrake for the time being.

I dunno, at least it isn't an identikit SUV large square box on wheels. Nearly every manufacturer, including Jaguar, seem hell bent on producing vehicles that you just need to stick a turret on, and then you can use them to invade Poland.

Jaguar only produce around 1/6th of cars that BMW or Mercedes do.

The fact is they need to widen their appeal to younger buyers.

It's a concept car. They're all nuts aren't they? That's the point.
Absolutely. It’s like high fashion on the catwalk, it’s not about the public taking the piece and using it as is, it’s about generating discussion and influencing the lines and shapes, which get watered down into something more socially acceptable and visually palatable for the average punter. That said, that looks shit to my eye, but I know nothing about cars or style to be fair.

like any concept car has it's good and bad bits. really dont like the front view, very SUV, tank aesthetic, not the slender lines of the E-type it's obviously channelling.

Swimming against the tide I rather like it, though am not in the market for £100,000+ cars.

I couldn’t get behind all the faux outrage at the marketing shenanigans, and think the car has real presence. Will it sell enough to make Jaguar viable as a going concern? I have doubts, but hope it does well.

Given that modern cars are differentiated more by their software and battery chemistry than their hardware, you can’t really tell anything from a concept car, except that it has (to my eyes) a pleasing profile.

Not necessarily. There have been an increasing number of cars over recent years that have been 'concepts' – essentially the production car with a few tweaks – back in the day there was the Range Stormer, which ended up VERY similar to the Range Rover Sport and, more recently, the concept version of the new Renault 5 ran it pretty close.

Some concepts are still bonkers but, from what I've heard, these are not too far from the truth. Clearly those plans might change – or the cars may never even materialise, but a lot of manufacturers (Jaguar included) can't afford to spend the amounts they used to on concept cars.

As for the Type 00, it doesn't really matter what I, or most other people think, because a) design is subjective and b) we're not the target market for these cars. However, the fact that the story has been in the headlines for so long already – and these cars were recently compared with Rolls Royces – will have been more than Jag could ever have expected. I know for a fact that the comms team are delighted with the response, even the negativity :lolol:

This is what I've been banging on about for years – and why I never get too hung up on styling, regardless of how much companies try to brainwash into something being sporty/dynamic/imposing.
