I am wondering whether it is time to introduce better (some?) screening for heritable channelopathy (which predisposes to sudden adult death syndrome, which manifests in the young, with death the first symptom) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (heart enlargement that in those at risk is bigger and more arrhythmogenic in athletes) for which death is also often the first symptom. These can be detected in advance of the lethal arrhythmia.

Medical staff arrived quickly, only one or two seconds of footage but the incident reminiscent of Eriksen.

Would probably have to be done on a country by country basis in that case. Last summer there were 11 000 pro football transfers. I have no idea about the cost or how-tos of doing that screening but I'm guessing it would be difficult to make it mandatory on a global scale.
Bit surprising this happens in Italy. They are world leaders in heart screening of athletes and ban all athletes with heart issues with no exceptions, like Eriksen not being allowed to play in Italy with his pacemaker.
Hope the guy recovers completely. Latest news sounds positive.

No idea if it's the same thing but didn't we fail some player on a heart condition and then he ended up dying later because his club didn't do as we did??
Sounds like a very logical step.
Edit: Raphael Dwamena. Died age 28 of heart attack on a pitch in Albania.
