Seems a good idea HarryI am wondering whether it is time to introduce better (some?) screening for heritable channelopathy (which predisposes to sudden adult death syndrome, which manifests in the young, with death the first symptom) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (heart enlargement that in those at risk is bigger and more arrhythmogenic in athletes) for which death is also often the first symptom. These can be detected in advance of the lethal arrhythmia.
Would probably have to be done on a country by country basis in that case. Last summer there were 11 000 pro football transfers. I have no idea about the cost or how-tos of doing that screening but I'm guessing it would be difficult to make it mandatory on a global scale.I am wondering whether it is time to introduce better (some?) screening for heritable channelopathy (which predisposes to sudden adult death syndrome, which manifests in the young, with death the first symptom) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (heart enlargement that in those at risk is bigger and more arrhythmogenic in athletes) for which death is also often the first symptom.
