[Football] When is a punch NOT a sending off offence ?

So West Ham concede a penalty for the 'keeper punching the Arsenal player, instead of the ball, from a corner. The ref gives a penalty and a booking to the 'keeper. If that happened anywhere else on the pitch, surely that's a red ?

I'm getting my pitchfork!

Err I'll have a go at this one. Is it because goalkeepers are entitled to attempt to punch the ball in their box whilst it's pretty much a no no for outfielder players to attempt that anywhere.

You have not been charged for this :ffsparr:

Shit.

It's a judgement call. Is the offensive player putting his face in a position to be punched where you expect a goalkeeper to punch it out? If yes, no foul at all. If the offensive player is avoiding to strike the ball with his head and the keeper strikes his head or another part of his body with a punch than it would most likely be a red card.

When was it that Dunk had to play the end of a match in goal when, I believe, Sanchez got a red card for a deliberate challenge?

That's like saying "why is the keeper allowed to keep on catching the ball in his box? If a player did that anyone else on the pitch it would be a booking"

These days, if you're a goalkeeper and you accidently punch an oppo player in the head, you get arrested and thrown in jail.
I’d have been Ang Lee if the ‘keeper was given a red.

There's a thought, a speedball/football/boxing combo game would be a good watch. Give the goalies big boxing gloves and legitimise landing a punch on players, set pieces would be awesome

I am going to defend fabianski here. I think he was nudged off balance and therefore to still get such power in the punch he deserved a medal not a yellow card
