I'm about to replace my Garmin running watch, as well as running I'd like some golf features in the new one (distance to green etc.). So question is do I go for another Garmin or take the plunge on an Apple Watch? Has anyone used either for running and golf or got any tips?

I use Garmin for golf,.... it suits my game as an 18 handicapper, I am not too bothered if the distance is a yard or so different to one of those expensive handheld range finders.

I use a Garmin S40 which does the job.

Gives you front middle and back green distances, allows you to move the pin on a virtual map to drill down further if needed.

All syncs to a Garmin golf app which keeps your scores, virtual handicap, stats.

Very good 👍🏻

Shotscope X5 for me with the shot tracker tags in the clubs. Does front middle back to green but also hazards to aid lay-up or carry decision. Also yardage to dog leg is useful too.

Tells me steps too ....

Arccos now supports the Apple watch, but sucks a lot of power. I have the Ultra 2 watch which is fine, but using an older Apple watch you'd need to run it in low power mode to avoid running out of power before the end of 18 holes.

The info it provides in play is great - but probably the same as eveything else. The real value of Arccos is the data it collects over time. You'll discover how far you really hit each club, what your expected miss is, what your strokes gained (or lost) is when taking driver off the tee, and lots more.

It doesn't make you play better, but helps you understand how to avoid playing worse.

I also use the Workout app for logging gym sessions, walks and running. Integration of lots of apps on the watch is very good (e.g. workout app, health app, sleep app and my scales all talk to each other). It's useful to collect weight, blood pressure and VO2 max etc. over time.

I use the free Hole19 app on Apple Watch. Others available that do similar thing. My watch is now 4 years old so need to ensure pretty full charge before I play 18 holes. Can be set do GPS taken from watch and not phone so that can stay in the bag. Does the job I need. As a 19 handicapper then +/- 3 yards is good enough for me. I find it more useful for <120 yards to target as longer shots are less consistent at my level. Easily picks up new courses standing on 1st tee

I’ve got the base garmin S10. Suits me. Looks at wrist…front, middle, back yardages. Job done
