Nice classical off spinner's dismissal hack across the line to midwicket.

Exactly why you should always include a spinner in the team even if the pitch looks as green as a snooker table.

Ravindra dismissed for 34, but should have been out just before lunch when he edged Stokes behind but the England players failed to appeal for the nick.
It’s lovely and warm (26c) but the wind is now getting up and the standard bails have been replaced by the heavy bails.

Elsewhere Sri Lanka were bowled out for 42 in Durban today inside of 14 overs, the second shortest innings bowled all out in terms of balls faced in Test history. Only South Africa's 30 all out at Edgbaston in 1924 in 75 balls was worse than Sri Lanka's 83 balls today.

Part of me is always a little bit surprised when these terrible records aren’t already held by England

Went from 32-4 to 32-8 in 10 deliveries. Pure village.

The lowest total I have ever played is was 20 all out. I do remember a match where we were bowled out for 27 and had them 14-5. The match lasted all the way through to tea such was the crawl.

I'm definitely not betting with William Hill anymore. That advert is so annoying on repeat

Why are we bowling at 6th stump to a tailender with an average of 2 ? 🤣

My first ever school cricket game we bowled out the oppo for about 27. I was disappointed to be told that I’d be batting at 7, despite not bowling. I ended up scoring 14no and we scraped home.

Yeah, I was omitting kids stuff. I I remember bowling an opposition out for 9

The last game I played in was the last 3rd XI match of the season a couple of years ago. There were a few regular players but most of the team were young teenagers brought in to make up the numbers.

The bowlers (mainly regular players) did quite a good job and bowled the other team out for about 120. About 10 overs into our reply, it became apparent we were at serious risk of losing by 100 runs as it turned out none of the younger players were big enough to hit the ball off the square. I went in at about 8 or 9 and promptly tore my groin running for a single, so that I could barely walk. The umpire offered me a runner, which I decided on balance probably wasn't worth the trouble. :lolol:

I was bowled an over or two later having been so early on a massive slog that I could have reset myself and had another go if I'd thought to.

We lost, in case that wasn't obvious.

I did think some of the recent chat around Chris Woakes bowling overseas has been over-optimistic. A lot of it seemed to suggest he's been really unfortunate by that nasty England set up picking James Anderson for so long rather than giving him a chance, while the reality is that he's played a decent number of tests abroad and he's been almost completely ineffective in all but a couple of them.

To be clear, I'd love it if he actually takes some wickets in the second innings and rest of this series to make this seem silly.

England finally decide to bowl a straight yorker length delivery to the bunny at number 11, and thus the innings ends

Unfortunately the bunny is a good bowler who I'm surprised England didn't try to steal from the Kiwis before they selected him.

To be honest, I’m not sure that NZ really counts as overseas in this context. Surely the closest to English conditions of all tours.

You'd think so, but the last time Woakes bowled 10 overs or more in an innings without taking a wicket in England was 2019. Before that it was 2014.

He now averages over 60 with the ball in New Zealand, albeit this is only his 3rd match there.

Interesting that. I would definitely have had him in a starting eleven in New Zealand.

In other news, I can see Crawley swinging out to Southee here
