And England take three spinners to New Zealand. All ready for the green tops.
Leach got through some overs on the last couple of tours, so having a spinner in the side would seem to be a good idea (notwithstanding that it's always a good idea).

If you want a spinner in the team (and you do) then you need two in the squad in case one of them is rendered unselectable for any reason.

So really, we're just questioning why Rehan Ahmed is there. I guess it's just as useful to have him there as it would have been to send him on the Lions tour in South Africa, and the alternative to either of those options would presumably be that he spends the winter pushing trolleys around Narborough Road Tesco.

Nothing like a rational, conciliatory opinion to spoil a sarcastic joke :ROFLMAO:

Can anyone explain why we have taken three spinners to New Zealand - the home of the tedious medium pace trundler.
Ignoring @Sid and the Sharknados fairly sensible reply…

The answer is that, as proven in Pakistan recently, and the white ball tour of the West Indies, the England management and captain are FAR too clever, and far too good at thinking outside the box, to pay any attention at all to hundreds of years of precedent, to accepted wisdom, to playing conditions, opposition strengths or prospective players’ career achievements.

A little tale. 40 years ago, Sussex were playing a match at Hove and a school teacher of mine had a spare ticket and asked me if I fancied going along. Of course I did. My Dad worked for the sponsors and was happy to sanction it. Good job too as it was a school day.... In a clandestine way I met my teacher that morning so as not be discovered and sat there with him enjoying a pint in the pavilion. I was 15 and must have been the only kid ever to bunk off school with his teacher and his parents full permission. Well, cricket is more important than education, and obviously my teacher's job. Thankfully all was fine for all parties concerned.
A few of us bunked off school to watch the Sussex Gillette Cup game - can't remember which one, but it must have been towards the later rounds. Parents were fine with it. At the match we met Mr Cox (Geography) who said to us "I haven't seen you, and you haven't seen me". So presumably he had skipped work too!

No, there’s a white ball tour to India in the new year ahead of the Champions Trophy

I think Crodo is trolling. He's actually the only poster I have on ignore after the Hundred wind ups. Unfortunately I looked at the last post to see the reason for the comment.

There's a difference between a benign wind up and deliberately trying to piss people off.

In other news, 22.00 start. I rather like that. Cricket till lunch then bed.

The pitch looks like a bowling green at the moment

I can't decide if the New Zealand anthem sounds like a Eurovision entry or a Wesleyan hymn.

Another thing New Zealand do better than Australia.

To be grouped together with “literally everything else”.

Rather disappointed I never went there during my time in Australia all those years ago.

Decent crowd in. Hopefully some pics from the NSC correspondent

Atkinson strikes with a decent caught and bowled, 4-1
