Starting a revolution from my bed
In 2020/21 Southampton were 3rd after 13 games with 24 points.
They then had a dreadful rest of season , finished in 15th place with just 43 points - just 2 more than us that season. Almost looked like they were going to get relegated at one point but beat Palace and Fulham out of the blue in May and hung on.
Had a great FA Cup run too only to lose to Leicester in the SF....
That’s a stat to bring you back down to Earth. Any idea what happened for them to have such a collapse?

Welbeck gets a nagging nick and is never the same. Then João Pedro gets a nick and then Rutter. Suddenly all the scoring goes away.

I used to think that. However - there is no actual written evidence of the saw pit derivation. The teeth on the chain holding the logs in place is called a dog - like the teeth at the end of the chainsaw and on a sewing machine - basically the gripper bit that holds the item steady. But when sawpits like this were in common use, no-one ever wrote about the sawyers being top/under dog. They seemed to have been referred to as top sawyer and pitman.

It may actually be that we have later reverse-invented a derivation because it sounded likely.

The first found printed references to underdogs in the mid 1800s referred to dog-fighting. And dog-fights often took place in pits - sometimes the very same sawpits as above.

Top-dog being the one that one, and came out 'on top'.

Overdog is used in some older articles about dog-fighting, along with upper-dog,
None of this should be confused with overdogging which is a self inflicted injury caused by too many nights hanging around in laybys.

We are due a ref/var howler and a pgmol apology.
Well at least we didn't get that. Jarred Gillett of all people gave us one that could have gone either way.

So, who had 'Playing a second half looking like we'd just been introduced to each other and conceding a goal to a player who shouldn't have been on the pitch?'

I can’t work this place out threads appear after Saturday’s win top four can we go for the title, how good is Fabian to let’s shit ourselves over the team who have picked up one win all season
'This place' knows it's onions!

Someone should have done - because the very same thing has happened before. Was it last season or the season before that an equaliser was scored by someone who clearly should have already been sent off?

Against Fulham at home I think - thug(Paulina?) elbowed Pascal in the face in the first half - ref and VAR ignored it - Solomon for them in the final minute - maybe to win it??

Me.

Jokes aside I could only see an Albion win last Friday. Ston in recent times have not been an Albion bogey team.
Oh I quite agree Southampton are another level of dreadful. But we just don’t win those home games against teams we’re expected to beat after a good run of results.

And tonight was absolutely nailed on.

I couldn’t believe the bookies offered 6/4 on a Fulham win. The markets wooed by our league position. No account made of our record there, Fulham/Silva are effective, our rubbish second half last Friday, injuries, we can’t defend for toffee.

There have been 13 Premier League matches between Albion and Saints, and only ONE has ended in a home victory.
