Back to his elite level best. Think it’s very easy to forget the difference he makes to our team when he’s at this standard just because he’s a left back. But his impact on the side from that position is huge, both defensively and going forward. Undeniably the greatest full back to have ever played for the club.
I agree

Looking at the thread title is he out of contract at the end of the season, or has he signed an extension?
He signed a 5 year contract in August 2022. He's half way through it.

(the confusion is because although the first post is 2020 - it was just speculation that we were interested and sniffing around. Just normal Albion tracking players for a couple of years before signing.)

What’s happened to his defensive game? 15 months go possibly one of the beat LB’s on the planet, I remember a R5 Monday or Friday evening programme rating him the best LB in the PL at that moment. Now … awful positional sense, nothing bits of play down his side become a clean break for his opponent as he comes unstuck in a tussle, on repeat. Thank gawd for Dunk.

Whilst upfield he’s still a bit of a force.

Been saying the same myself, he simply cannot defend and positionally he is all over the place. He’s a defensive weak link and when Lamptey was playing too we particularly struggled with both full backs not being able to defend. We really need to get Ferdi fit and playing left back

So many of the Estupinan errors seem avoidable. Scuffles at the half-way line by the touchline with literally any opponent no matter the struggling status of the club, Estupinan makes himself wrong side, then their player is away in on goal.

Our left wing gets targeted every game no matter LB, and I think its because our LW can't defend so we're vulnerable to 2v1s out there. Easier back then when Caicedo could come to support. He has a massive work load now and make many sprints that make him prone to errors.

Dunno. Looked like one of the most solid LBs in Europe under Emery. Think in the right circumstances he is a great LB defensively.

I’ve often cited the defensive double act of Caicedo and Estupinan. During wonderful 2022/23 we travelled to Bmuff in April 23 they tried to rough us up …. Billing etc and they’d spent a fortune in January on a whole new forward line with pace. If Estupinan was beaten, Caicedo appeared like a bat out of hell to kill the danger.

Glad someone else has noticed. He's been dreadful defensively all season. Torn apart by most right wingers we've played against

Another of our players with 'world class' ability playing well below their usual standards. He was a liability defensively today. Absolutely nowhere for the goal that got ruled out, stepped up too high and got caught out just before half time, presented them with the ball which they broke with and got a shot away with a needless casual pass on the halfway line in the second half... those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Agree. Been off it all season IMO. We could really do with him finding his old self.

So many of the issues he’s having are tactical. The reality is that the guy gets next to no support all game defensively, but is still expected to play as an inverted full back and overlap.

It amazes me how the big the double standards are on here where he and Lamptey are concerned, yet someone like Veltman can offer nothing going forward all season, has the easiest role to play in the entire side, yet is treated like a God.

It’s like most of our fans can’t see that they’re being asked to do rather different jobs for the side.

Christ man, lay off Velts … he was superb defensively last night… not really worried about what he didn’t offer offensively, as he defended superbly.

Perv was poor at both ends of the pitch, and very poor defensively… he’s lost a yard of pace since his injury, blindly obvious and shouldn’t be being asked to push up all the time… he looks immobile, really sad to see.

Our whole defence has very little pace , and with no decent defensive midfielders to cover the fullbacks if they press forward, or to protect our fragile central defenders, we will always be susceptible to the counter attack, and this is why PE is not Looking as good as he was a couple of seasons ago , and don’t forget has Had a lot of time out with injuries

The lack of pace is so obvious. Unbelievable that no one was signed

Did Veltman steal your girlfriend or something? You seem absolutely obsessed
