I’d go Weiffer and O’Riley in midfield for this one. Expect Saints to have more of the ball and Weiffer is good at intercepting play in key areas, and Southampton do make some bad mistakes playing out.
Conversely I’d go with Ayari (or Hinsh if available) because of their pace in the counter-press which so far Wieffer hasn’t demonstrated. Every game Southampton play suicidal football around their own box (think us, but really shit) and give away goals. I think pace is going to be key in this game from us

Think Wieffer should definitely start this one with any one of Ayari, Hinshelwood or MOR and then Baleba and one of the other two who didn't start this one against Fulham (worth noting Fulham have a very quick turnaround, Sunday-Tuesday so unleashing fresh legs against them could be deadly. Would look to play Minteh there if fit)
Who are Fulham playing on Tuesday?

Agree with all of that, just feel O’Riley is capable of pushing on and pressing higher alongside JP on their deepest midfielders. Those two plus Mitoma, Rutter, Welbeck gives a solid 5 man press and Weiffer backing them up. Think there’s arguments for all of our midfielders in this one to be honest, I’d like to think our front 4 can do the business against these on their own anyway

What were the curve balls they tried to throw at LFC for the first hour? I didn’t watch it live. Martin talked of them being aggressive.

Anything for us to negate?
They pressed high and played more direct than usual, then gassed as they aren’t used to playing like that, and fell apart in the final quarter. Still made the stupid mistakes at the back though.

I hope the same goalie plays. Although the equaliser was a wonderful early touch, the pitch positioning (angles) against a left-footed forward I thought hilarious.

It was a tactical masterpiece indeed.

They appeared to be completely shite for the first three months of the season, hoping Liverpool would underrate them, which they also did until they decided to go and win the game.

I am in love with the front 4 of;

Rutter - Pedro - Mitoma
Welbeck

Such an exciting, well balanced set of attributes. That first goal vs Bournemouth was absolutely liquid.

I just worry what we’re left with if one of them needs a rest, though.

we’d have to resort to one of Enciso, Gruda, Minteh, Adingra or Ferguson. Need Solly back quick. #BareBones

A good chance to start O’Riley but it’s only fair he has Wieffer next to him to mop up. We can pop on Hinsh or Ayari if we need a bit more attacking and passing play. Mats did well against the now Popped Cherries when he came on.
