How did you get tickets for Fat Dog?

I didn't see them available anywhere
Think they were only sold through the Dice app. Deffo sold out within a day or two. I think I bought them back in May. Can’t remember to be honest I lose track.

Went and saw Fontaines D.C. at Ally Pally on Friday night, they’ve elevated themselves to new levels now, 10k people in the palm of Grian Chattens hand. Superb.

Good one to be at. I passed as I hate Ally Pally as a venue and am seeing them at least once next summer. I suspect you were at their C2 and Chalk shows in the past and so must have been strange seeing them play a venue that feels so cavernous.

Second gig of the week was Molchat Doma. Sound wise, they have moved ahead a couple of years and are now channeling Depeche Mode Construction Time which is not a bad thing. Live wise, they have moved up in venue size and sold out the 3500 cap Temopdrom. The stage at the Tempodrom is huge.....and the trio spread themselves out as much as they could but used the large open spaces to dance around. The crowd was a weird mix of older types who like their 70s/80s sound, excitable teens who discovered them when they went viral on TikTok, Russian/Belarus speaking people (they sing in Belarusian) and a lot in between. I like this diversity though.

I managed to pick up a cassette of their new album which maintains my collection of all their releases on vinyl and cassette.

Tickets were 50 euros which seems a little steep but a friend told me the venue is quite expensive to hire.

All good.

That Girl's Aloud gig from the 02 on channel 5 today was bloody superb. Quite shocked at how good they were. Never would have thought it

Yeah I’m not a big fan of Ally Pally either, but enjoyed it on Friday tbf, rip off prices for drinks! Going to see Wunderhorse and Shame in the summer at Ally Pally so they can’t keep me away :lolol:. Seeing Fontaines again in Finsbury Park as well. Long way from when I first saw them in the Prince Albert in 2018.

I thought if anyone on the forum had been at their fabled Prince Albert gig it would be you. That’s always going to be a good humble brag.

I had to wait until Nov of 2019 at C2 to see them. I remember feeling really ill with flu that evening but being so desperate to see them that I shoved down a load of painkillers just to be there. Of course, just a few months later such actions would become unthinkable….

That 2018-2022 period for post punk in the Uk was a real moment, so many good bands releasing great albums, some have gone further and some disappeared completely, saw loads of them at the Albert at some point probably 😂

Boring By Sea
Saw a band called Get Down Services at Hope on Friday night. Not sure quite how to describe them- had been recommended by a mate who persuaded me to go along. They were part comedy double act, part band. Both on guitar with some keyboards and lots of backing. It’s was actually very entertaining and show was sold out. Would I see them again? Probably not but certainly fun as a one off.

Just out of interest which bands ? I’m not as close to this scene as I’d like to be; any recommendations I can listen to?

Black Midi, Shame, Tiña, Lazarus Kane, were some of my favourites, basically just work through the Green Man lineup from 2021.
Thanks. I am familiar with Black Midi, seen them a few times myself. Also saw former member Cameron Picton support Lankum recently. I’ll check out the others.

Went to see Florence Black and Massive Wagons at the Engine Rooms Southampton last night - very good

There was a third 'act' - some bloke called Cam Cole playing really bad blues and said he was a one man band just before he then introduced another guy called 'The Owl' on stage with him. The Owl was like a low budget Bez - playing a bit of tambourine and a cymbal while dancing around like a demented morris dancer, very strange.

One word of advice for anyone going to the Engine Rooms - don't park in the Ikea part of the West Quay car park. Us and a few others got back to find the gates closed and eventually got hold of a security guard to let us out. Wasted a good 20 minutes of our time but the only bonus was we weren't charged for parking.
