This guy is the real deal. Great finish after Georginio's shot and an incredible assist for Mitoma's goal. Could end up Brazilian number 9 he really is that good. World class.
No exaggeration here.

His first goal demonstrated outstanding No.9 abilities. We’ve seen supreme 6 yard sniffer qualities with players like Murray and Undav during our Premier League journey.

But it’s his assist that blew my mind yesterday. Perhaps he could play No.10 for Brazil too?

This is from the NSC FB page, I can’t find the image on NSC but it’s probably somewhere…

The genius of this is profound.

NO ONE IS LOOKING AT MITOMA!!!

Why?

Look at Pedro’s eyes.

Pedro is looking at Welbz, possibly checking out the intelligent run by Estupiñán. Every plucky player is absolutely DONE by this. They are all ready to press Pedro or intercept a pass to Welbz or Estupiñán, especially Smith (No.15) who has no idea what sneaky Kaoru is up to! The Bournemouth players clear a path for Pedro to thread a perfectly weighted pass to his team mate.

That is how an elite world class No.10 plays.

Sorry but like Roy Keane I hate this ‘no9’ etc phrasing that’s keeps in. What do you mean by a 9 and a 10? Is 9 off the striker and 10 the striker?

He said a few weeks ago that someone (Milner?) had told him to follow the action near goal & be ready to pounce.
He said it again yesterday, without the name

I think 9 is the main striker, 10 is the playmaker guy that sits behind him...but our guys rotated positions so much yesterday that that description seems pretty meaningless 😁

The Roy Keane camp is not a great place to reside!

I suspect he refuses to acknowledge the conventional positions associated with shirt numbers because he is a contrarian twat.

If you want to understand what so many people are banging on about, dip into this. Best of cluck.

“Traditionally, the No.10 shirt is given to the team's playmaker or star attacking midfielder………Notable No.10s include Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Eden Hazard, Johann Cruyff (though he wore 14 for the Netherlands) and Pele.”

No - I don’t want to know! I don’t want to lose old football language - well not all of it!

I always look at us like this in our system:

9.
11. 10. 7.
8. 6.
3. 5. 4. 2.
1.

However, all of our players rotate so it's more descriptions of positions on the pitch, rather than the actual players themselves.

Pedro is a fantastic no. 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11

He is going straight to the very top. I think we'll need to get Champions League football to stand any chance of keeping him any longer than this season.

4 goals & 2 assists in 369 minutes of PL football this season, i.e a goal involvement every 60 odd minutes.

You hear a lot about 'aura' in football at the moment but he has something unlike I've seen in any of our players before. You just know he's going to deliver... penalties, big moments, big games. He just always seems to come through. If we keep him fit for the rest of the season top four/five is so on

I like how responsible he feels to produce. He said he's one of the leaders in this group, you can see his ambition. Everything he tries to do has purpose. For me now it's basically down to how consistent can he be. If he stays at his current level all season we will get a European spot and we will most likely receive a huge bid in the summer.

These terms don't seem particularly new. In fact, if anything, they're a bit dated. How many teams play with a classic no.10 these days?

As football evolves, new terminology will always come in and out of fashion. Maybe the WW will be back soon with half backs and inside forwards; Hürzeler's St Pauli actually was pretty close to it now I think about it.

In fact when he brought Matt O'R on against City, Matt said that Fabian asked him to play in the number 8 pocket (basically Inside Right) from which he scored his goal.

It’s also as much about the developing understanding between the forward players - in the lead up to both goals it’s looks as though they have some kind of ESP. Rapid, one-touch passing and fast movement yet they find each other’s feet. Joao alluded to it in his post-match interview
