The most curious thing..
I can't believe people still use this as the argument. Are Boca Juniors, Fenerbache, River Plate, Dortmund etc all 'tinpot'? With atmospheres that make the Amex look like a library?

The problem I have with a drum is not the drum itself, it's that you can absolutley guarantee that the person who volunteered to be the drummer would be a self-absorbed attention-seeking dickhead who would insist on extra beats and drum solos and make it all about him, rather than what it should be, which is for him to wait for the songs to start and just drum a simple beat to keep them in time.

He doesn't even exist yet and I already hate him. Twat.
Something on the lines of

that goes on and on and on and on and on and on and and on and on and on and on and on and on :wozza:

Also we NEED goal music.

And corner anthems, free kick fanfares, and penalty hymns.

The problem is that, as in most things in life, a drummer is only the answer in a few situations.

Some t***t with a drum and stick is not going to create an atmosphere, that's down to the crowd. When we are being totally outplayed and 1-0 down, all everyone is going to want to do is to take the stick and stuff it where the sun doesn't shine.

When we are feeling confident and the atmosphere is starting to grow, it's natural and slowly builds and doesn't need a drummer.

When we're back in the game and on top, and everyone in all the stands are up for it, that's where we need a drummer to keep everyone in time.

The trouble is that by then, they would be in A&E trying to get their stick back from where the sun doesn't shine

Put the drummer in the stand / Bkock with the quietest decibel rating each week, thus giving an incentive to not have to stand / sit next to them

2nd half tonight easily one of the best atmosphere's at the amex.

1st half mirrored much of the season, dire.

The TB song was immense and ajolly good way to gee up the players and they responded perfectly.

The banging on the walls really helped keep the noise going

As soon as it started to dwindle, an encore of the banging got the momentum going again

Great effort from all involved
"Absolutely a jolly good way"...................do people still talk like that ?

Isn't the fact that they're a drummer sufficient incentive (whether they've bought a drum or not)

to deal with this imaginary drummer that we don't like, couldn't we go all Spinal Tap and have them die in unusual ways every few weeks? bizarre gardening accidents and all that.

Absofuckinglutely no! I heard their drum & thought of this thread.
There was nothing wrong with whoever did their drum, it was as subtle as you could get with someone 'drumming'. It wasn't all the time, it was occasional, as I would expect it to be at ours. This maybe to do with mic placements etc but the drum didn't sound like it got everyone singing together in unison. It sounded like it made no difference at all. as far as I heard on the slow body of water. I was on the fence, I've now decided it's good to add to singing, doesn't work when you're losing. So don't bother with it. Those in the NS seem to be fine with banging on the walls at the right time. I'm now definitely out.

Pompey -drum Plymouth -drum and yesterday Bournemouthy -drum , bloody horrible racket . Agree with those that say we must create our own atmosphere.

Their drumming yesterday was the worst I've ever heard, like nursery kids bashing away with no rythym yet learned and just to make a random loud noise, might as well just have had some :cheery: :vuvu:
