Am I right in thinking that Gomez was sent off after he was substituted? Anyone know the context? Was he kicking off about the penalty?

Gomez and an unused Bolivian sub were shown red cards after a both benches clashed following the penalty being scored.

It all starts about 10 mins into the video below.

Looking at match timings Gomez was subbed off in the 65th min. The penalty is given in the 75th min but there is a 5 min delay in it being taken which I can only assume is for a VAR check. It immediately kicks off as soon as the goal goes in, but the video then starts showing replays of the penalty.

Can’t see exactly what caused Gomez to be shown the red card but at one stage he’s being dragged away by another Paraguayan player looking very angry.

I haven’t seen anyone not backing him have you?
Yes, there's a thread here implying that he isn't committed to the club, plenty of comments on social media that are critical as well. I cannot understand it, he plays with joy and freedom and is a wonderful player. He had a very serious and long injury and needs time. Not everyone can just flip a switch and play at the level he was before, and BHA has changed in that time as well.

Don't see that all. He's exceptionally talented but I see very little joy in his game for Brighton right now and that has been the case a while. Very surprised if he's not sent on a loan somewhere in January. As it stands, he comes on for 15 minutes every game and spends it shooting from 100 meters, nothing achieved and player and manager looking frustrated.

He needs to play more football but he's not really useful to us as long as he's too desperate to be useful... its a bad cycle and 6 months of banging them in for Villarreal or something would be the best for everyone.

Yeah well I meant the joy thing in general. It must be hard to come back and find we have stuffed the team with incredible talent even if he also possesses it. More game time will allow for further 'joy' to be expressed. I hope he doesn't go on loan as we may end up regretting it.

"To Portugal?

Given the lack of minutes at Brighton, PORTO DE PORTUGAL will seek the loan of Julio Enciso for at least half a season or a season.

If the deal goes through, Brighton would offer a loan without an option to buy.

Spanish and Italian clubs are also conducting surveys."

It makes sense. For all of his undoubted ability, he is currently behind Pedro and Rutter, so won't start for us. We also have Gruda or even O'Riley if necessary.
Defensively he is a liability. He needs to get proper game time as Facu is at the moment. All in all a Jan loan may be for the best.

This. The Albion are currently on such an upward trajectory that what would have seemed unthinkable this time last year now seems like the sensible option. Strange daze indeed

Porto could be a brilliant loan, potentially. Huge club, noisy fans who expect to win every game, European football. Could be the making of him.

I wonder if he regrets that Olympics decision now?

Makes sense especially if Gomez also joins in January. In terms of where he plays he is behind Rutter, Joao, Welbeck, Ferguson, Minth, Andringa, Mitoma, Gruda already for those front 4 roles. O’Reilly and Gomez could also play as a 10 and March is likely to be an option by January.
He needs 6-12 months of solid football week in week out. Potential to be a great player but without the minutes he won’t improve. At the moment his learning is static.

He’s only got 18 months left on his contract doesn’t he? Can’t see us loaning him out without him signing a new contract, which I can’t see him doing.

If he's only got 18 months on his contract and won't sign a new one, which you wouldn't blame him, it is probably more beneficial to us that he has a decent 6 months on loan and puts himself in a shop window.

Unless we can sell him in January.
