Still really hard to say I think. But if he's lucky, he keeps getting lucky. A LOT.

I was sceptical for a bit, but after some early wobbles I feel like he's a really good problem solver.

Personally I think the most impressive thing is his management of a big, quality squad. Keeping everyone happy and dealing with an experienced squad seems like something an experienced coach should do. But he's definitely got something.

He's also very level. Doesn't freak out, isn't fazed by stuff. Amazing really. Especially when I compare 47 year old me to how I would have been at his age!

I've always thought that Hughton, Potter and RDZ got the best out of the squads they had.

I believe we now have the best squad ever and he's certainly keeping up the tradition :wink:

I think he could well be better at getting results than both Potter or De Zerbi. Both struggled to get anything on the board if the team weren’t playing well (which was rare with both managers).

Hürzeler has that thing where the team can fail to dominate, make mistakes and just play rubbish but still get a win.

RDZ was great while it lasted but he didn't really adapt. It was his way or f*** off. Yeah we tightened up a bit at home to Villa and Forest but it was De Zerbi ball or out.

Today, we were the best of Potter, RDZ and er Sam Allardyche when we went to 10. Bravo. That is the way to win games.

He could be the real deal.

Same. He should have learnt during the Chelsea game but at least he’s learnt since and has adapted to the game. He’s a good manager at the moment - potentially a great one.

This is certainly true, but how much has he been able to lean on this 'best ever squad' so far?

With the exception of Rutter, most of the new signings have had very little game time so far and there have been a lot of injuries to key players. On the other hand, he made the call to retain Ayari, which I didn't see coming, but it's proved to be great judgement.

Finally, with all the disruption to our midfield this season, do we really think he has had better options than Caicedo and Mac?

Lots of short memories here,
There was the angst at the loss of Pascal, WBG and then Buonanotte and Barco on ”needless” loans
Joao Pedro, Dunk, Jan Paul, Webster, March etc from last years squad all injured at some stage contributing to us leading the table on player/days lost to injury.
Wieffer, Gruda, O’Riley, Minteh, Kadioglu - all 5 of the 6 new arrivals injured at some stage already.
No proper preseason together due to the Euros, late signings etc
And we could go 2nd next Friday if we beat Southampton.
Fab has not only been a breath of fresh air but shown his ability to develop the squad as a team and also improve the players individually.
Ayari, Igor, Baleba, Hinshelwood will only get even better and Danny has been magnificent.
We can dream of Champions League football without being seen as basketcases.
