Think we missed out on Adam Clayton as well when things started going pear shape, as well as starting the season with Vitaljis Maksimenko as our only fit LB from memory.
The lineups from the opening game where we used Calderon and, erm, someone else at LB. Fenelon started over CMS and we had left back Adam Chickson on the bench (unused). Against Millwall our back 4 was Bruno, Dunk, Halford and Chickson. Spot the weak links.

Oh you weren't alone. I remember going on the Albion Roar and saying he was my favourite player. Well he was!

But yes, it was definitely the low point of our modern (i.e the Amex) era.
Ince was good under Garcia when he was alongside experienced pro's like Crofts and Andrews, but alongside other young lads like JFC and Gardner he was just a bit too much of a ROGUE

thqt was it. i remember the Argus having a story saying we'd swooped for Clayton, Baldock and Ward and just, for a minute, it alll looked rosy.

I thought it was just me who was excited about Clayton.

Now I see it was you too.

Rumour has it that Oscar left for reasons other than football related.
His son, the one who died not so long ago, was a factor one imagines.

I keep remembering all the players we signed and then discarded ...
Paddy McCourt !
Nzuzi Toko ! - never played !
Al Habsi - played once during a mad goalkeeper / loan crisis !!

One of only two times in my life where I (sort of) hoped we would lose - as couldn’t see any other way of how Hyypia would leave.. spectacularly toxic that evening.

The other occasion being that final day at home to City which stopped Liverpool winning the league which was rather amusing..!

Watching the OP highlights video, I forgot how empty the ground was, remember the misery of the game, the banners, the Millwall tough guys trying to get at the kids, but never the empty seats

Sorry to ruin this but Toko did play for about 20 minutes away to Burton in the league cup where from memory I genuinely think he could have been sent off 4 times in that short spell on the pitch. I do wonder how many people witnessed the absolute chaos, that was, 20 minutes of Toko.

EDIT: I seem to remember Calderon also got sent off in this game for a horrendous tackle which even me one of the most biased men in football, said was probably a sending off.

Didn't we go to Wolves get a draw but Hyypia was sacked? I went to that game but have very little recollection. There was a banner i recall, Wolves missed a pen?

I was at that Wolves game (Elliott Bennett's dad was sat just in front of me, although Elliott didn't feature in the squad - I think there was a restriction of no more than five loan players being selected and we had five other loanees involved: Joe Bennett, Greg Halford, Darren Bent, Joao Teixeira and Gary Gardner).

Darren Bent gave us an early lead but Bruno got himself a straight red just before the hour mark. Danny Batth scored an equaliser on 88 minutes.

Hyypia offered his resignation on the Monday.

I may have mentioned it before but this was the last season my Dad was alive for. He passed just before the final game against Middlesbrough after a short and brutal battle with Cancer. He'd followed us his whole life. He's visible when Storer scored against Doncaster Rovers. He was in the away end at Hereford. He was as albion to the core as anyone who's ever lived.
And he had to endure that shite as his send off. Just missed out on the glory years, reaching heights he'd never have dreamed of. I'd be okay if we were at least looking like we were on a good trajectory, but a return to the noddy leagues was looking like the outcome for next season.

So...
f*** you Sammi Hyppia
f*** you Burke
f*** you Gary Gardener
f*** you Darren Bent
And f*** you to the other cloggers that disgraced the shirt that season
