It’s also sad that he struggled privately with Bulimia for 2 decades before making it public in 2008 - for a high profile man in his 70s to publicly admit to an eating disorder was quite brave at the time and he did an enormous amount in raising awareness amongst that demographic.

I will not be able to make the next home game, I know bad fan, but I will be in hospital recovering from an operation.

I was thinking that if you put together a list of the top 5, maybe even the top 3, most influential people (in a positive way!) in the history of Brighton and Hove Albion, he‘d be on that list. Enough said.
Very nice tribute from the club. Where would we be now without him?
A proper working class trade unionist on the far left of the Party. FWIW, I agree with LLF; there would be no high office for him in today's Labour Party.

Hazel Blears worth mentioning too who gave the final “yes”.
Reading this thread and JP’s contribution to where we are now and the brilliant last 14 years is just so massive. No beautiful stadium. No Premier League. No European tour. No Mitoma/Welbeck/Caicedo/Mac Allister (World Cup winner) et al.
So much hinged on the We Want Falmer campaign and the brilliant work from everyone involved, from Paul Samrah to the whole committee to every single person who marched, sent postcards, letters and flowers.
Getting a bit emotional. Second time in a week after Stand or Fall.

Irrespective of your political persuasion, no Brighton fan should be in any doubt as to the massive role John Prescott played in the history of the club - no matter how fleeting that role was.
He was a potential blockage in our quest for something simple like having a permanent ground for a professional football club to play in. Instead, he observed the shenanigans of the planning inspectors, saw through their horseshit, and realised the effect - the human effect - of what a community stadium would mean to such a city.
Ultimately, he agreed with what the community knew was right.
His approach was pragmatic, his decision-making was on a human, rather than box-ticking, level, and he often let it be known of his appreciation of the CONSTANT personal campaigning wherever he went in the world (he often told a story of being in Japan on government business, and people approached him there, asking about what was happening to Brighton's new stadium – "Bloody hell, you Seagulls fans are everywhere. It was the nicest campaign ever pitched towards me.")
The man saw, the man knew and the man (kind of) delivered.
