Very sad news. As well as a great politician and a friend of the Albion I always found him a charismatic and entertaining man…one thing I liked is he often used sarcasm to great effect in speeches and interviews.

RIP and thanks.

Thank you Mr Prescott. A bit too left for me, but his heart was in the right place. Probably would not get near national politics today as a bit too dinosaur like for many, but stood by his beliefs and would defend them to the hilt.

RIP.

Just reading about his passing. It was his nod mainly that paved the way to Falmer being built.
Also he didn’t like eggs being thrown at him by men with mullets.

Two jags Prescott. He was very clever when the planning permission was called in for public enquiry. The wording was the city needed a stadium, but the enquiry was which of the sites it should be.
I was one of those along with half a dozen others, including a dullard, who went to his constituency office, with the Valentines card, before our away game at Grimsby. His agent thought it was very humorous.
JP said he was assailed everywhere by Brighton fans, even in Australia, where someone’s relative demanded he gave us a home.
RIP JP

A true legend and someone we should all be grateful to and for.

He understood and has Nick Robinson says today, he put the labour in new Labour.

We knew he didn't like confrontation and would be alienated by it. So we had to be memorable, friendly, humorous and clear with our message. Please don't also underestimate the work or Steve Bassam, Ivor Caplin, Des Turner and David Leppard for their lobbying.

As has been said above, he was at the Kyoto climate conference when he was approached by someone, who after asking him a few climate questions, then said 'and now I need to talk to you about the Brighton and Hove Albion stadium' to which JP replied 'you bloody seagulls get everywhere'.

I did like his line when someone suggested his decision had been swayed by the hospitality he received at Withdean

So very sad.

Met him on several occasions and chatted to him a few times in the early days at Brighton Labour Party conferences - I was there for his very impassioned OMOV speech in 1993 - lovely, down to earth man and true stalwart of the Labour movement.

But we’ll all remember him for approving the Falmer site in 2005: For me personally, campaigning closely alongside Cllr Steve Bassam to get the Falmer site approved, I especially have very fond memories of Prescott’s intervention when the app was called in. After taking on the likes of Henry Oliver, the Green Party and Norman Baker MP, and knocking on thousand of doors in the local election/Falmer Referendum and after campaigning through each of the planning application stages, his decision for those of us who had fought so hard for the Falmer site was frickin monumental.

RIP JP - Brighton fans owe you one.
