I gave up at half time and thought Ferguson had looked fairly useless, mostly just strolling around, did he improve in the second half?
Harsh I accept as Ireland only looked half decent in their own box and he had pretty well zero service.

He played half the second period and was anonymous, as Ireland couldn’t maintain a ‘get in their faces’ gameplan.

Just back from the game.
As far as Sunday football afternoons go, it really couldn't been any more enjoyable. (I'm sorry Evan didn't score a consolation - I think that should cover it!)
5th row from the front behind the goal where England scored all 5.
The sending off and penalty was clearly the key moment, but England could've easily settled at 2 or 3. To their credit, they didn't slacken off and coast.
Some fantastic finishes - a well worked set piece, a great flick on and a towering header. Kane's reliable from the spot and Gordon reacted quickly.
Having not seen the national side for a while before the Finland September game, it surprised me just how great the experience is, even with Wembley.
The attractive style of play aside, there's nothing quite like watching the national team at the home of football. Put the cynicism aside and try it.
At £25 for adults in ESTC, it was tremendous value. The FA certainly don't get everything right, but they can put on a show at an affordable price.
Can't wait for the World Cup Qualifying draw now on 13th December. My 2025 will now be spent collecting stamps in the passport.

Sods law that I watch the first 30 or so minutes of a plodding performance, go to bed to wake up to a five star second half performance. Admittedly against a second rate ten man team but you can only beat what's in front of you and it seems we comprehensively did, with a large number of experienced big name players missing.
I'll take that all day but in hindsight I would have gone to bed a couple of hours earlier!
Also, what a ball by Kane. And Bellingham's for the fifth was quality too.

I'm a long-lapsed England member and like you signed back up to the ESTC this summer. Did Finland and Greece, but this was the first £25 ticket for me behind the goal. That second half was superb entertainment and I'm really looking forward the World Cup qualifiers, hopefully getting an away game in as well. I've always liked Wembley and just don't find it as much of a ballache as some people. A couple of things have slightly irked me though. For Christ sake, why can't the big screens show some replays? Got nothing for any of the goals. Also that half-time DJ is bloody awful. Must be some highlights they can show. There are enough age teams playing games. Small gripes though.Just back from the game.

The football that England are now playing is entertaining and expansive which drew me back in. Yes, the first half was quite attritional, but the 2nd half more than made up for it. Work in progress and nowhere near a finished product, but 5 wins out of 6, promotion and job very much done by Carsley. He can now return back to the U21s where he feels more at home developing players, but with a lot of extra thanks for stepping in.Yes, at least one away game is important in 2025 - there's around 6,000 of the 28,000 other ESTC members on the same loyalty caps as me (and probably you!), so it'll really help with the possibility of tickets for WC2026 in USA / Canada / Mexico if we can move above them! All things being equal, in 12 months time we'll be looking forward to finding out who England will be facing in the group stage.
You're right, some replays or other highlights from other age groups at halftime would've definitely helped. That DJ doesn't add much at all to the event IMHO, but the 3 mascots going round the pitch getting prematch photos with the kids was great. The best bit though - the camera going round filming the kids who could see their faces up on the big screen. The lad a few seats along from me got that - his Dad took a video of him being videoed with the big screen behind him with him on! He'd have quite happily gone home then - he'd already won his weekend. That will have gone down well in today's Show and Tell at school...
Plenty of police around as might be expected for an England v Ireland game, but no aggro at all outside the ground. A lot safer and more friendly than at plenty of Albion games that I've been to. That's changed for the better in recent times.
All in all, couldn't fault it. The magic's still there.

I had a great weekend of sport - went to Twickenham on Saturday and Wembley on Sunday.
Whereas on Saturday the second half was dreadfully disappointing, the opposite was true on Sunday.
I didn’t see any trouble or issues at either, which was good. I enjoyed both occasions though I didn’t care much for the mutual anthem booing and the Irish fans booing our military beforehand at Wembley, though it was no big surprise (I’d heard it first hand with the anthems in Dublin in September too). The 2 events were a complete contrast in terms of the way the anthems are sung and respected - it sends a shiver down your back at Twickenham and it’s an embarrassment at Wembley.
If we are going to boo (and get booed) by countries we have been to war or historically had some battles with, we may as well scrap the anthems at football completely because we’d be left with a very short list of anthems that could be mutually respected. That’s not my preference, but if we can’t mutually respect each other’s anthems when playing against a country that gained independence a century ago, it suggests nothing is going to change on that front any time soon.

Yeah but England fans generally boo the anthems of every other country regardless of a warring history. All the righteous indignation about Irish fans booing GSTK is frankly ridiculous.

Am also an ESTC member and collecting caps for the euros in this country, which now operates on a 4 year cycle. Was in block 109 as usual and was a great second half. I think the Irish fans regretted disgracefully booing the soldiers at the start……….
I don’t condone England fans booing other anthems either. That should have been very clear in my post, not sure where the righteous indignation was. But the vitriol towards the England anthem in Dublin (I had more 2 finger salutes than I could have imagined) and at Wembley, the booing of our military on Sunday and the so funny (not) Lizzie’s in a box chants do not put the Ireland fans in a great light either. I travel to Ireland a lot with work, my boss and team are based there, and I am lucky enough to know that this behaviour doesn’t represent the decent folk on either side.

They really really don’t at all. Other countries are far worse / just as bad. The Germans boo the English anthem and nothing gets said. The Scots have done it just as much - nothing. It’s one myth I hate following England. Yesterday it was pretty deserved after the Irish booed the military. And their booing in Dublin. It would have happened anyway because of the second incident I’m sure but most countries boo anthems at times. At the Euros there was no audible booing of anyone’s anthems where I was. Countless games at Wembley and only the home nations and Germany have been audibly booed when I’ve been there!
