Having wrung the excellent Gregg Hurwitz dry, I'm thinking of moving onto Peter May. Has anyone done much of his? Thinking of going with the China series.

The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store - James McBride

I'm enjoying it. The second time I've bought a book on recommendation from Waterstones Horsham.

Winds from the West by Alistair McCall Smith - seems like a bit of a campus / Stoner type novel at first and turns into a simple-ish relationships / human story - but very easy, short read. Probably not for thriller addicts unless you want a break.

The Salt Path.

My missus bought it and while it was lying around (the book, not the missus) I picked it up and started reading. We usually have different tastes so I wasn't optimistic. However, it's a remarkable read. It's an account (non fiction) of a walk around the SW Coastal Path by a middle aged, middle class couple. So far, so unpromising. The reason they are walking is that they just been made homeless and literally have nowhere else to go. Plus the man has an incurable disease.
It's beautifully written (by the wife - his not mine) and is more than just a walking adventure. A remarkable and uplifting book..
Movie coming real soon.

"Russian short stories from Pushkin to Buida" edited by Robert Chandler for Penguin classics, utterly brilliant collection of short stories by all the Russian "big hitter" authors, thoroughly recommend it, a great introduction to Russian literature, one of my all time favourite books.
