The arse end of Hangleton
NSC full of faux snobbery, who'd have thunk it?
It's nothing to do with snobbery - I rather like a breakfast from Wetherspoons - especially at the airport.

But that so called Christmas dinner is a dogs dinner and a rip off to boot. I've cooked a full roast dinner for 5 people with all the trimmings (including crispy roast pots) for £2 a portion. So there's no excuse for Wetherspoons to serve that muck up for twelve quid. If they can't make it properly then don't sell it.

I'm surprised they're bothering with this. Didn't they used to serve a Sunday roast but stopped it years ago to focus on their Michelin star core menu?

Now there's a place that probably has biscuit base for their banoffee pie.

Oi!! 87.8% of of people who voted, said it should be biscuit base! :lolol:

I've been to the West St. Brighton one, twice as a meeting point before the theatre. The first time I went in there, I felt the need to point out to the barmaid that I'd ordered 2 drinks as it appeared she was just charging me for 1. We had a couple of beers & left, all was fine in the time we were there. Baker St, London when going to Wembley & another couple of day trips to London, all fine & that included once with food. Worthing one I've eaten at about 4 times now. By no stretch of the imagination is the food 'fine dining', it's a Harvester without the salad cart.
Maybe I've been lucky due to time of day etc. or just don't look at what everyone else is doing as I focus on the company I'm in, but I just haven't come across anything negative about the people in there and the beer is always fine.
I had a mini pub crawl in Brighton last month (mini was the places visited, the time was about 10 hours). Colonnade, Dome, Black Horse, Colonnade, North St. Spoons & then onto Soho House, at least 2 drinks in each. The only place where I didn't come across a pissed up pub weirdo was Spoons. The Colonnade gets top spot for that. Difficult to decide between Soho House & The Black Horse for 2nd place.
Yes I'm sure 'I' wasn't the pissed up weirdo in the absence of one! (y)

Xmas dinner should obviously be accompanied with roast potatoes but don't think it's only spoons that don't mash their potatoes 'fresh'. There was a restaurant in Brighton called Havana (I think), bloody expensive & I knew someone who worked there as a chef. When I saw him a couple of months after I'd had a meal there I mentioned that the mash was horrible. He agreed & said that it had nothing to do with him, but things like mash are frozen & heated up. No matter how 'jazzed' up the mash sounds on the menu, it's likely to still taste like mash from a ready meal. I am very snobby about mashed potato, there are rules and the 1st one is, it has to be freshly mashed! 😁

I rest my case.
Hmm, not sure that's reflective of Banoffee Pie votes actually.
I think there have been Crodo polls on here to say that the majority think Mrs Browns Boys is sh*t. It's obviously a North/South divide with Mrs Browns Boys, most of us Sussex people think it's crap but most of us Sussex people think Banoffee Pie should have a biscuit base.
As Banoffee Pie is a Sussex thing, as far as I'm concerned the 87.8% of people polled were correct in saying it's biscuit based, as they're quite likely to come from Sussex, which is where it originated. A Hungry Monk recipe was posted with pastry, then an updated one said biscuit.
At the end of the day it's not my fault that my poll gave me the confirmation I required to continue with a biscuit base!! :lolol:

Wetherspoons do have overheads to cover though, ie staff. If you were sitting down at home and having someone source it, cook it, serve it, and then clear it all up then unless it was your doris or your mum, I'm not sure your £2 a portion would cover it.

Reminds me of a thread I saw on Twitter about 'worst things you've seen in a pub'.

Someone said they saw a wedding party come into their local 'Spoons, with a bride in white wedding dress and the lot.

Apparently it became obvious that they hadn't notified staff in advance. :lolol:
In fairness, would you need to let them know in advance?

It's the kind of thing you'd see on that show "don't tell the bride" The fella has spunked all his money on strippers, coke, and paying off his Littlewoods 87% APR account so he's only left with 500 quid for a slap-up meal at spoons and a few quid left for a Live, Life, Laugh picture as the wedding gift.

This really.

Wetherspoons has a place - the snobbery about it is quite high. Don't like the bloke's politics - but you can't argue with the prices, and by and large they are okay. The beer is generally good because of the high turnover - it doesn't get time to fester and go off in the barrel. And they almost always welcome mixed fans before a game as well.

I try to avoid Spoons wherever possible, I can’t recall the last time I went in one in Brighton, but let’s face facts, en route to an away match after blowing 90% of my days budget on an overpriced cramped train, to walk out of the station to then get an ice cold pint, a curry, a pint of juice and basically anything from a list of about fifty things my 15 year old son would eat (and bearing in mind, his debit card which has money on it is ALWAYS forgotten) for less than twenty five quid is hard to resist.
Also as it’s served so bloody quick it then gives us more time for a walk around town and the opportunity to try a local pub or two.
