I hope he realises, as soon as ‘Are Tommeh’ is released from his latest stretch, he’ll be camped onWelbys doorstep doing his journalism.

After all, Tommy is an expert on religion and child sex abuse.

The UK churches have always been riddled with perverts and paedophiles and a cover up is the norm. He should have quit before he was pushed. Good riddance

I experienced two of them as chaplains when I was at school but was not personally abused.

Coincidentally the below took place today at Hove Crown Court. I had the misfortune of having to attend a weekly school assembly with him in my last few years of primary school in the 1980s.

This change of course would have been after a heart to heart conversation with the big man upstairs. It really is ‘thank god’ he’s gone and finally done it.

After the last couple of days, I think I’m becoming a Baleba.

Can't believe the twat Very Reverend Stephen Somefuckingthing on C5. He had to go to safeguard the church. SAFEGUARD the CHURCH ,you prick. It's safeguarding children not a corrupt institution . They simply don't get it. Hypicritical arses.

Having a sincere voice doesn't make you believable

Well whatever next? If the Archbishop of Canterbury resigns for not addressing child abuse in the Anglican Church where does that leave the Pope? Should he go as well after the catalogue of abuse against children in the Roman Catholic Church? Asking for a friend.

Just as well I didn't get the Manchester United job ! I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring. Great job ! You actually get paid to wear the most outrageous headgear. Bring it on !

Covered on local TV news tonight. The defence barrister called for a shorter sentence because this career child rapist pleaded guilty at the last minute.

Should have been sacked but guessing there was no one above him in a position to do the deed. I suspect by resigning, he'll be picking up a very nice pension which will probably include a place to live until he pops his clogs.

Sick people doing sick things is bad enough but it is worse when so called religious people cover it up.

This is quote from Justin Welby back in 2013 when speaking about the sentencing of Robert Coles (who was on some kind of placement at my junior school back in the 70's).

"I believe that the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults should be the highest priority of all parts of the Church, and that any failings in this area must be immediately reported to the police.
"I repeat what I have said before and, on behalf of the Church, apologise with deep grief for the betrayals and failings that occurred."
"My priority as Archbishop of Canterbury is to prevent future failings of this kind happening again."

Yeah, right.

Welby was alleged to have considered the reputation of the church over the needs of the victims.

Respectfully, your post performs a similar function. You’ve sought to minimise the damage to the church/people of faith in pointing out that the offence occurs in greater numbers elsewhere. That’s straightforward whataboutery. I don’t keep a child abuse league table. Once is too often and I’d expect to see offenders brought to justice.

Welby’s position was plainly untenable and he had to go, which is something I feel you and I can agree on.
Absolutely this. The horrific nature and extent of the abuse has been confirmed today. I say confirmed rather than revealed because I can’t help thinking it has been known about for a long time. I have been well aware of it and it is in the public domain.

Well I too also read it that you were trying to deflect attention by saying that good people would now be 'demonised' and that most abuse happens in families. However I'll accept that you just chose your words badly.
“Deflect atttention…” is such a strange conclusion to draw from. I guess that’s chat sites for you.
