I want to buy an electric coarse fishing barrow for a member of staff's 10 year service gift. His wife tells me this is 'what he would love' but she doesn't know anything about them. I have never picked up a fishing rod and am equally clueless!

Are there knowledgeable anglers on here that could advise me - make, type, size etc? I've done some googling and there is a baffling choice.

Thank you in advance!

Make sure whatever you buy is gouda-nuff, but personally I don’t give Edam…

Fox, Korum, Nash, and Carp Porter are all good makes. Stay clear of Daiwa and Prestige.

My personal choice of a barrow would be Korum or Fox, but I don’t have a motorised barrow, so can’t offer personal insight on that aspect.

First really key question is what type of fishing does he mainly do….the ‘carp/specimen’ barrows are different from the ‘match’ barrows (nature of kit is different - carp/specimen anglers taking everything including the kitchen sink for a 3 day expedition, match anglers taking enough tackle to cover every single type of fish they might encounter in 5/6 hours 🤣)

Happy to help (feel free to pm me) if you can narrow it down to that - I fish on the local match circuit and our club committee has several carp/specimen anglers that use them so can get some recommendations on both for you (I don’t use one personally - bit like getting an electric golf trolley for me, it’s the next stage of old age that I’m determined not to bow to just yet 🤣)

I like that you are making a huss of this employee but don't carp on about it as it may go to his head.

Thank you. I'm not sure his wife knows much and this is planned as a surprise so cant ask him. Pretty sure he doesn't do matches, more leisure/day based. I gather its a case of struggling with his manual barrow now so I guess he's going to the next stage of old age a little sooner than you!
I can see they are not cheap and so I want to get something that is easy to use, is robust (ie it will last) but I have no idea what else it needs to do!
