I went cold turkey after the US election, deleted it from my phone. NSC needs to step up with a daily supply of stimulating, erudite content to fill the gap, as its the only social media I'm allowing myself. 🫣
Why did you feel the need to bin it after another country's election?.... that sounds a bit fragile and flimsy to me.

I'm using both Xwitter and Bluesky in parallel now.

Honestly, just need 1 specific account of the Xwitter accounts I follow to move to Bluesky and then I can boot X over the horizon for good.

It'll mean  ing goodbye to the Official BHAFC feed but que sera sera.

It's the obvious realisation that the tendrils of Musk's engagement algorithm is pushing conflict and disinformation into my brain which makes me want to shut it down. The rotten, devious app has to be gone from my life in short order.

I don’t know whether this is something or not - I was talking to a work mate yesterday who does Fb himself, about my concerns that Musk will make Fb into something akin to a pro-Trump ‘Truth Social’ now Trump’s won the Presidency - my work mate then said a load of people he knows that also do Fb who have been highly critical of Trump and Musk in recent weeks, have suddenly lost 1,000s of their followers - as if their accounts have been partially shadow banned or their followers accounts blocked or something. I guess all people lose followers but my mate seemed to think it was during the campaign and at a high rate and to people that have been overly critical of Musk/Trump’s political ‘collaboration’.
Musk has nothing to do with Facebook. That’s Jeff Bezos who I don’t think is a massive fan of Trump.

There's recent speculation that Xwitter is going to merge with Trump's Truth Social.

What an abomination that would be. Lol.

I'm currently stalking Rachel Mackley, and this would be much more difficult without multiple Twitter accounts, so I certainly won't be coming off any time soon.

Thread title make me laugh coming off social media, visions of people queuing up at the chemist for the equivalent of social media methadone every morning🤣

edited post - obviously a brain fart - I think having discussed Musk and X on the US election thread for months on end most people who know my contributions on NSC probable realised I was talking about X.🤷‍♂️

Jeff Bezos on the other hand, used to be the CEO of Amazon until 2021 and has nothing to do with Fb - now he isn’t even a major shareholder of Amazon.

Just signed up for Bluesky

Apparently plenty of others doing so as well, but guess they would say that.

Currently it's a bit quiet, but I reckon it will pick up. Needs some BHA content

The key to Blue Sky is setting up your feeds with the hash key at the top right corner. There is a bhafc feed available which is a start and will get better.

If X merges with Truth Social there will be a stampede to leave X.

It finally feels like the shift from twitter to blue sky is happening. This post from secret barrister sums up the difference in the two sites.

Much of the general news journos I follow have moved across but not so many of the football ones. Hopefully they follow so I can just leave twitter. I rarely post on twitter these days as in reality no one cares what I have to say so I am very much a follower.

Hopefully Bhafc start moving things over.

• Been on FB for a while.. hate it to be honest. Not posted (apart from Marketplace ads) for years.

• Twitter(X) user and fan for many years. Rarely/never post, but I have learnt so much about the good and bad of the world these past 10-15 years but naturally it's got worse and worse – with the decline hugely accelerated by Elmo the Evil and his army of enemy bots. I follow all sorts; great football accounts, politics, science/nature, activists, military (Av geek), photography, comedians, podcast people, writers/authors you name it. So much proper undercover journalism breaks on Twitter(X).. the traditional media are days/weeks behind (or never cover it at all).

The stuff I see on Ukraine now via Twitter(X) is soul destroying and IMHO should be shown on national TV news every night so that everyone really knows what evil is going down there – and what we are facing. Having said all that, I need to spend less time on there and welcome the move to Bluesky for my sanity. I think we will see this migration explode over the coming months. Come Jan 6th inauguration, would be lovely if X had 25% left of its original users, when/if it merges with Truth (WTF) social. Am starting to note down all my Twitter(X) followers details now for the move.

• Instagram. My family dragged me onto this after refusing for years. Actually quite enjoying it. I post nothing and curate exactly what I want to see. Absolutely fabulous accounts about marine conservation/marine footage, more football accounts, aviation and photography. Has also been really useful for following physios, fitness people since I've fooked my back. Learnt loads.. but of course the feed is now full of thousands of irritating Americans contorting into all sorts of impossible, ludricrous and probably downright dangerous positions :D

• LinkedIn.. a necessary evil... but God I loathe it.

I reluctantly use Twitter, but like many others I plan to bin it very soon.

I've read of both Blue Sky and Threads being possible replacements and that both are growing quickly.
Has anyone got any advice on which is the better one to join?

(I use it to follow updates for football and cricket, general news, sharing links to Flickr)
