I don't know enough about Dutch right-back options, but one Dutch football journalist has blasted their setup for not recalling him.

Whilst I absolutely get the "club over country" line of wanting to keep players nicely rested whilst others are jetting all over the world, I think Veltman is such a good pro, and such a decent bloke, that I want him to get some further international recognition.

And, it would be great for three of the Dutch back five to be Albion too!

If they pressed Wieffer into an emergency CB role, and if (Dutch born and raised) Ferdi Kadioglu had chosen them over Turkey, we could have had ALL FIVE...

According to Öztürk, the scouting of the Dutch team has to draw conclusions from this missing name. "If Joël Veltman is not discussed, then you have to shut down the entire department."

I guess Joel is in the same situation as Danny Welbeck. They are both absolutely performing well enough to be considered in the here and now - but would both be seen as retrograde steps, by coaches always looking to the future.

Yes, it makes sense. He becomes a Dutch international and then is voted our player of the season and then he goes back home for a half decent fee.

How is playing against Hungary, or Bosnia & Herzegovina, as the Netherlands will in the next week, any more challenging than playing against (and beating) Man City...?

I dunno. I reckon if he can cope with the likes of Arsenal, City, Liverpool etc. in arguably the best league in the world he might be alright coping with the pace from the likes of Hungary and Bosnia

Would you say that Hungary and Bosnia are better than Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal? Games in which he played very well in and wasn't particularly troubled pace-wise?

I absolutely LOVE Joel veltman- best looking dutchman I know. Quality shithousery, decent defender & when I bumped into him really nice guy.

But international full back for the Netherlands = no. Scotland or Republic of Ireland = yes. But not England level.

I appreciate all his efforts, but he doesn't offer enough attacking threat to play for a top tier international team & defensively he is good, but struggles against pace

It's a no from me. I don't want the Dutch to play England and have to join in the outrage when he mugs off Declan Rice again. It doesn't seem to have done the mental health of Arsenal fans much good.

I'd say Messi is good enough to play for England (if he was english). He could also get into most teams

1v1 - I've seen with my own eyes that he isn't as quick as some other players = my evidence (& opinion)
