Three Points

Everton 0 - 3 Albion actually felt lucky and could have been 2 down at half time.
Albion 2 - 1 Man Utd draw probs fair
Albion 3 - 2 Spurs draw would have been incredible
Newcastle 0 - 1 Albion draw probs fair
Albion 2 - 1 Man City

One Point

Arsenal 1 - 1 Albion should have won
Albion 0 - 0 Ipswich should have won
Albion 2 - 2 Forest
Albion 2 - 2 Wolves 2points dropped

No Points

Chelsea 4 - 2 Albion
Liverpool 2 - 1 Albion prob deserved a point

You do the math but I tend to look at games at who is under pressure for periods of the game and overall chances to score with credit given for good defending. Everton was just odd. We played ok but they were all over us in the first half.

I don’t believe we ‘should’ have any points other than those we actually have. If we concede 2 late goals to Wolves, that’s our problem. Why should we deserve the win? If we should have beaten Wolves, then Newcastle should have beaten us in terms of the chances they had.

Sorry, I know this isn’t in the spirit of the question but every team in the league can go through their matches and say where they should have had more points, including their matches against us!
I was going to say the exact same so thanks for saving me the typing. 🙂
We would all have liked extra v Ipswich, forest, arsenal, wolves and possibly Liverpool but it is what it is. Still happy though!

Just from what I would've expected us to get. The home games against Wolves, Forest and Ipswich would be 9 points. I'd have been confident of 3 against Man Utd, a point at Everton and a point at home against Spurs, so 14 is my answer for a new untested Manager and bedding in new players.

Having got 19 at this stage is superb.

Taking into account, Luck, poor finishing by the opponents, great goalkeeping:
Lucky against United ( the disallowed goal)
Could easily have had draws against City, Spurs, Newcastle
Could easily should have lost against Arsenal
-10
By the same margin, we could have got a point at Anfield, should have won Wolves and Ioswich
+5

so a theoretical 14.

Where do we start with that?

Man Utd were Zirkzee's knee away from 3 points, Arsenal would have had all 3 if the Veltman incident was waved away by a different ref. We were 25-1 to beat Spurs at half time, Newcastle would argue they were worth at least a point, Man city could have been 3 up at half time and even Wolves were the better team for large portions of the game.

Yeah we probably should have put Ipswich, Wolves and Forest away but on balance I think we have had more luck than not on the pitch so far. That's good though, we need to take the breaks when we get them and we've had tough fixtures. The best performances are yet to come and I think our best 11 when we get it on the pitch is a match for anyone.

The dull part of the south coast
I don’t know why people torture themselves with this question.

It’s all swings and roundabouts. Imagine how Manchester United fans feel after we won. They missed going ahead late in the game with a really bizarre offside situation and then we score a last minute winner. They probably look on that game as we do the others we dropped points in.

Newcastle fans will look on our win as we do the Ipswich game. They battered us for 45 minutes and we score with the only touch we have in their box.

We see the Arsenal game as dropped points but so do their fans. We can’t both be right.

I do find it odd that people only ever focus on the ones we’ve dropped but can reconcile that against where we have got more points than we deserve.

Having said all that, I’m still gutted about Wolves.
How many of us would have taken a draw at halftime against Man City? 99.999% I reckon.

Whenever anyone suggests we should have more points than our current tally, others will mention that we rode our luck a bit in other games and picked up more than we probably should.

So, with that in mind, how many points do you think we should have right now, if match results followed dominance and chances etc.

As a reminder, this is what we have picked up to date:

Three Points

Everton 0 - 3 Albion
Albion 2 - 1 Man Utd
Albion 3 - 2 Spurs
Newcastle 0 - 1 Albion
Albion 2 - 1 Man City

One Point

Arsenal 1 - 1 Albion
Albion 0 - 0 Ipswich
Albion 2 - 2 Forest
Albion 2 - 2 Wolves

No Points

Chelsea 4 - 2 Albion
Liverpool 2 - 1 Albion
18...

We rode our luck a bit against Newcastle and United to be fair, but should have beaten Ipswich, Forest and Vulvas, and should really have got a point at Anfield, so I'd say our performances deserve to have an extra three points (22).

We should have beaten the weaker sides at home (Forest, Ipswich, Wolves), but could easily have only drawn with Man U and Everton, and lost against Arse, Citeh, Newcastle, Liverpool and Chelsea.

11, and I would have sucked that up.

Funny old game.

Well it is what it is but I would suggest we could easily have had an additional 5, two each against Forest and Wolves as we were in a winning position and we deserved at least a point against Liverpool

With a bit more luck in our 11 games so far, we could even be up on 32 points. Ah well

21.

Two home draws should have been wins, but we really only deserved a point at Newcastle.

Come the end of the season I will be adding 6 points to our final tally to see where that would have got us. The home draws against Ipswich, Wolves & Forest.

According to Understat, we should have 17 (and we should be in 10th place). Their "Expected Points" figure is based on xG and xGA. Interestingly, Fulham should be second (and Chelsea should be 11th).
That may be skewed by the difficulty of the matches we have played, and done surprisingly well in.

Looking at teams in the top half of the table, ourselves, Arsenal and Chelsea, on paper, have had the toughest league fixtures so far.

Fulham, Forest and Spurs the easiest.

Whilst it feels like we dropped 2 at home v Wolves, I think we also gained 2 v Man Utd. 19 feels about right.

We dropped four points against Wolves and Ipswich. We gained four points against Newcastle and Man U. So, yeah, we're about right.

However even though I know that is logically and realistically true, and that over the course of a whole season these results even themselves out - I still look at the table and think: "If only we'd beaten Wolves and Ipswich we'd be third at worst!"

All fans do it. Fulham fans think they should be at least four points better off and be in 3rd.
