What a signing he’s been. I’ll be the first to admit I had doubts when we signed him after a bad season and relegation at Watford. Never doubted his ability, but purely his fitness and desire and keep putting in the effort and not just take the paydays. Couldn’t be further from the truth, as the above interview describes with his ex youth coach - plus all the positive things teammates and coaches have said about him since. Worth his weight in gold on and off the pitch, and along with Groß one of our greatest ever signings in the PL era - and beyond.

He’s such a huge part of what we do and I hope Manchester United aren’t looking at him in January. He’s crucial to our play.

“On holidays with his family in Greece and Portugal he would say goodbye to his partner and children for a couple of hours every day to go on a long run or to the gym, or do some pitch-based work. “It’s not easy,” he says. “You’d prefer to be training with the group. But you know what? It’s good to do work when no one is watching as well. It makes you feel better.” “

Now THAT is the way to do it: not just football or fitness training but the whole big goddam ballgame of life, work, whatever. No wonder he’s overcome all these awful setbacks with a mindset like that. It makes me feel better reading that.

And a great example to some footballers who use their time out injured doing the bare minimum mandated rehab sessions, getting drunk and going clubbing.

He’ll have set backs going forward, of course, but that was a great interview

Long and insightful interview with our evergreen marksman, truly the nicest guy in the game. So proud he’s one of us and in such blistering form: long may it all continue:

Danny Welbeck: They said I might never return to this level

If I have a slight criticism it's that it's that I hope he just used Giggs and Ronaldo as footballing role models and not anything else

Not amongst the goals this evening but DW deserves his flowers, the energy and press from him is massive, leads from the front and puts in a Captains performance 🫡
His clever run opened up the way for Pedro to put in O’Riley for his goal. Tremendous stuff.

Welbeck and O'Reily both have shown that attitude, application and mindset are massive in injury rehabilitation. I genuinely believe that fitness driven as much by a player's mindset as well as their physical prowess.

I’m also particularly intrigued by Alex Ferguson’s quizzes for the under-12s. They just sound absolutely petrifying. “Right come in, ma wee laddees. Noo, question one. “NO! DON’T ALL SHOOT OOT THA ANSA AT ONCE!”

And there was some fool on 606 saying players over 30 don´t "bounce back " from injury!
