I recently participated in some market research for IKEA ahead of their Brighton opening. They wanted to talk with local men about their storage needs - and that’s how rock and roll I am.
Some friends kindly drove me to Croydon IKEA once, just so I could inspect some furniture. First thing we saw while driving down Purley Way was a rat the size of a dogI went to the Croydon IKEA once. It was on a Saturday and we spent 30 minutes trying to Park, 2 hours going through the store only to find the items we wanted were out of stock.
Mrs Elbow hated it too so we skipped the meatballs and stopped off at Uncle Sams on the way home.
Going on a Saturday afternoon was your first mistake!I went to the Croydon IKEA once. It was on a Saturday and we spent 30 minutes trying to Park, 2 hours going through the store only to find the items we wanted were out of stock.

As an Ikea veteran, it occurs to me that unless Hove dwellers intend to take their massive flatpacks home on the 49 bus, there will need to be one motherfucking massive car park built. Somewhere.I'm not a big Ikea person. But I'm hopeful that this will be massive for my city. Lots of people in and lots of those empty units around Western Road and Churchill Square filled.
I'm glad it's on schedule
I’m on the 49 bus back to Hove as we speak and not a lot of room on here.As an Ikea veteran, it occurs to me that unless Hove dwellers intend to take their massive flatpacks home on the 49 bus, there will need to be one motherfucking massive car park built. Somewhere.
To give you some idea of the size of a typical Ikea car park:
Plans for 1,300 homes on Greenwich's Ikea car park withdrawn because of 'spiralling costs' - The Greenwich Wire
Updated story: Proposals to build 1,290 homes in a development surrounding east Greenwich’s Ikea store have been withdrawn by the developer because of “spiralling” construction costs, it said this evening. The scheme, Peninsula Gardens, would have included the demolition of the adjacent B&Q...greenwichwire.co.uk
I’m a man, of course I didn’t pick up a map for a shopYou didn't pick up the leaflet as you entered. There is a map, where you can go through doors to avoid complete sections.
yep that Chip 'n Dale was nonsense.Love em, Poang chairs are affordable design icons , Kallax shelves and Malm range punch way above their cost, and the meatballs are a chef's kiss .
Just think back to just how bad British furniture was before Ikea arrived on these shores .
This. I believe (might be wrong) that they will have smaller items there only, and run the ordering service for all the larger stuff.Ikea do delivery.
Brighton & Hove Buses won’t be swamped by huge boxes.
Exactly this.This. I believe (might be wrong) that they will have smaller items there only, and run the ordering service for all the larger stuff.
Exactly this.
It's not going to be a full size store, it's one of their 'City' stores like the one in Hammersmith.
Smaller items to take away, restaurant and then larger items on display to be delivered. Think I saw it will be electric/zero emissions vans too.
Fear not lots of Billy bookcases on the number 49!
Some kind of issue during the construction set it back, Spring I’m told. How's it going with this new IKEA City Store? Opened yet?
Ah ok, thanks! Some kind of issue during the construction set it back, Spring I’m told.
