I didn’t go to the game yesterday, but was able to share everyone’s delight in the result.
I have a slightly shifty neighbour, you know, the sort you wouldn’t ask to look after the house if you were away. He’s a Man City fan and I have to say I didn’t feel very sorry for him.
9pm and there’s a knock at the door. It’s him. ‘I’ve got something you might like he says- only a fiver’. ‘Not in a Man City bag’ I reply. ‘I’m not a glory hunter’. His Artful Dodger of a son is standing next to him, face fully painted in Albion colours. You had to smile.
Anyway, he pulls out this 2025 Albion calendar and just wants a bluey for it. I tell him I’m not interested; I’ve already got the Brighton and Hove Bus calendar and one I designed myself with pictures of all the Premier League referees in sexy match poses.
‘Suit yourself’ he says. ‘I’m just trying to recoup my loss’. I explain that four defeats in a row isn’t that bad. But he goes on to say he paid £191 to get him and his kids in. I then buy the calendar off him out of sheer guilt.
Tenner to a good home, fiver for OAPs. Although there isn’t a receipt.
