[Food] Lose 7lbs in November

4lbs average loss since we started so pleased with that.

No lifestyle changes - I could probably lose more by strict dieting and increasing exercise but I’m not prepared to risk adverse effects . Happy to walk the long steady road that will be sustainable for me.

Losing weight too rapidly can cause gallstones which in turn can cause acute cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), which believe me is very painful - lost a lot of weight (12 kilos in 7 weeks) when I was hospitalised with Covid which caused my gallbladder to burst and become gangrenous so speaking from painful experience!

Also, anyone with CKD (I have stage 3) needs to be careful losing weight too quickly - there is a greater risk of muscle loss rather than fat loss with CKD.

Keep up the good work and remember this is NOT a competition - everyone goes at whatever pace feels right and safe for them as @Couldn't Be Hyypia has been keen to stress.

NHS recommends a safe weekly weight loss is 1-2 lbs a week.

4.9lbs down in the week - pretty happy, main thing is I have been walking every day, no alcohol, and watching what I eat but I have still eaten too much crap.

I haven't changed what I eat too drastically and it doesn't really feel like a diet at the moment, will see what happens this week.

I have been following the Michael Mosley Fast 800 diet (including time restricted eating so nothing apart from water and herbal tea between 11:00 and 19:00) for just over three weeks and have lost 11kg. It has been remarkably easy - no bad carbs, no booze and 800 calories/day.

That's amazing, well done. And you didn't even need to have your stomach cut in half.


I am a bit worried what will happen when I stop but I'll deal with when it happens.

You're currently on "The Very Fast 800" part of the diet, so when you're done with that I assume you'll want to switch to one of their other two diets, or something similar, as a long term plan.

What you're doing is amazing and it would be a shame to just bin it all and get back to where you were.

What’s more pleasing is that I haven’t had to radically change my lifestyle. I’ve maybe done one extra session on the turbo trainer this week than I would have ordinarily done. I’ve also been eating the same meals as usual. The difference - I’ve cut out all snacking between meals. So this should be broadly sustainable in the longer term. It’s also indicative of how much crap I was eating between meals previously - the perils of working from home for the majority of time!

The extra session on the turbo trainer won't have made much difference to your weight, it's going to be the snacks, like you say.

I'm convinced people can usually lose weight and improve their health without drastic changes.

Pretty happy with that as I've cut back on bad stuff (especially bread!), but there have been a few blips along the way.

Importantly, though, this thread (or just the thought of it as I've not been following it religiously) was great motivation. Without it, I would've caved in.

Ok, on our way back from our place in Menorca today. Not sure of the accuracy of the scales there, but.
Friday was 85.8kg 13st 7
This morning 84.9kg, 13st 5

Back on the real scales tomorrow will see if those numbers are realistic then.

13st 2 on my scales this morning, so I'm claiming the 2lbs above plus just 1 for yesterday.

I'm claiming 3lbs loss, but I'll aim for 8.

Yep.

My one fewer piece of toast a day, and walking a bit quicker won't make much difference at all, certainly over a few days.

The key change for me is post-dinner. No booze and crisps have probably shaved 1,000-1,500 calories a day off my consumption, and that's a big enough change, in isolation, to get the scales moving in the right direction.

I have cut out snacks between meals. So that is my regular bag of crisps, choc biscuit out the tub the kids have and whatever else I find in the cupboard

I have INCREASED portion size at dinner. But that is adding more veg.

Nothing to eat after dinner apart from my nightly ice cream. I am not stopping that until a doctor tells me to. Stopping having biscuits in the evening has been the big win here, I think.

I am going to try and keep it up over the weekend because after a while I will stop craving sugar as much.

Glad to see most people are winning.

I'm a bit late, blimey life goes at 100MPH when I visit here for just a few days !

Start 1st Nov 89.9 kilos 14st 2lbs

8th Nov 88.1 kilos 13st 12lbs.

Am pleased that 4lbs has gone. Hoped it might have been a bit more. Roll on next 7 days.

So many success stories this morning which is really really encouraging me. Those who have had hiccups on the way....keep going, or re-start again. It's never a smooth ride.

Amazing to see so many people well on the way to smashing the 7lbs (I appreciate that's not the only goal of this exercise and that the first week often sees a greater weight loss than subsequent weeks).

Reading this underlines it's all about the individual. For me my kryptonite is beer, it's not just the alcohol and calories, although that's obviously bad, it's the fact that it leads to other bad things = eating shite late at night & not wanting to do exercise.

So I've cut all alcohol out for November, but that is to enable me to have a chance at losing a stone by 1st Dec. I'm also on a high protein diet with little carbs and zero sugar. I've lost 5 lbs since Monday (11st 13 down to 11st 8). If I didn't add the diet in then I KNOW I'd break and have a beer (tomorrow is going to be hard!!) so I treat it like a total change. I went for a run this morning for the first time in months, and it felt great, albeit hard!

I am a bit worried now that if I keep this up then I'll lose too much too fast. I didn't know that could be harmful until reading this.

Alcohol and associated snacking is also mine.

I've always been a drinker - not a "problem drinker" but I enjoy a drink - moreso when life is a bit stressful, as it's been for the last six months or so due to my mum's illness.

I'll often go from a confident "I'll not drink today" in the morning, through to a "I really fancy a glass of red:" by the evening. And a glass means a bottle, of course. And I love crisps and can easily plough through a 150g bag without needing too much help.

When I was running a fair distance every day, I could get away with it. Less so when I'm not.
