After a chat with the wife I have been reminded of traveling specifically to Stockholm to see Radiohead and Amsterdam and Antwerp specifically to see Kraftwerk.

Do theatre shows count? All over Europe and New York if so.

This is an actual 'went there for the gig' rather than happened to be there.

Iceland (ATP). Iggy Pop. Via Norway, so about 1300 miles.

Last night I went to see Ride supported by Mercury Rev in Melbourne.

I say the same line up in Brighton in 1992.

Not really answering the question but hey.

Went to Vienna to see Taylor Swift this weekend. 😕 (all three Vienna shows scheduled for the weekend were cancelled after a terrorist plot to attack one of the shows was uncovered by police)

Had a great time, the city is stunning, and when full of Swifties the atmosphere is delightful too.

Felt sorry for the many kids who’d travelled, We met Americans, some Finnish fans, even a lady who’d traveled from Trinidad. But they all seemed to be making the most of the City, the party atmosphere and the scorchio weather. Impromptu sing-songs all about the place and loads of museums, galleries, bars and restaurants offering free entry and discounts to those with TS tickets.

I saw and heard the sing-songs on the news, I listened out for you….

New York.

Saw Soccer Mommy in Brooklyn.

Wouldn’t say I traveled specifically :)

Went to see Kali Malone last night, she was exceptional and performed the new album in full, and in three seperate parts: choral, brass and pipe organ. A guy I met and spoke to had travelled all the way from Tokyo specifically for this show; he also went the previous night. Had a really good conversation with him about music in general and the ambient scene in Tokyo. 9000km for one gig, hardcore.

Perth, WA, to see Inxs play in a pub in 1983.

Ok so I was out there on a schools cricket tour, but it counts right?!

Saw Echo & The Bunnymen in New York a few years ago - but we were already there on a week's holiday; we didn't fly over specially to see them!

Not a gig per se, but does a music movie count?

I flew from Europe to New York specifically to see the Ramones documentary End of the Century at the cinema. My old school friend with whom I went to see the band several times in the 70s was living in NYC, and he asked me to come over as no one he knew there 'got it'.

We did make a themed weekend of it: visited Joey's grave in New Jersey, went to 53rd & 3rd, Rockaway Beach, and several other iconic places. By sad coincidence this was also a couple of days after Johnny died, so there was an impromptu shrine to him outside CBGB's...

I have seen numerous bands abroad, something I always like to do, but never actually travelled there specifically apart from Ibiza and LCD Soundsystem at Ibiza Rocks and then Fatboy at Space on my birthday and my honeymoon.
Oh my love of my life, the twinkle in my eye, my forever love. I've booked a trip to Ibiza for our honeymoon.
No, no reason I want to go there, it's for you my darling.

In the UK my longest trip was to see The Atom Seed in Aberdeen (then Edinburgh & Glasgow).

I've been to gigs in the States but they were more part of the trip than the reason for going. Watching Soundgarden playing the Louder than Love album in a record shop in Portland a particular highlight.

As for Europe I've been to plenty of shows but the furthest I've been is to Vienna for the metal meeting and various operas. Went to Vienna for Taylor but unfortunately some terrorist teens put paid to that. Will be back in Vienna next year for Iron Maiden.

Highly recommend popping over to Europe for gigs and festivals, normally easier to get tickets and it's a great way to see the continent.

Ha ha. We are both reasonably "travelled" and were both genuinely struggling to think of somewhere to go, we're not "all inclusive in the Maldives honeymoon suite" kind of people. We both love Ibiza and the LCD Soundsystem so it seemed like a fun honeymoon to have. Fatboy at Space was a happy coincidence.

The furthest distance would be UK to San Francisco, for Radiohead supporting Belly - but as I was already there on holiday, it doesn’t really count.

The longest ‘100% did the trip for the gig’ would be UK to Boston, to see a Throwing Muses reunion gig, with Bob Mould supporting.

Tanya Donelly therefore a constant in both cases, albeit by chance. Maybe she owes me some airmiles.
