Not many women in this thread, so may I present to you: Annie Wilkes. Absolutely terrifying.

Just found BBC THREE showing The Shawshank Redemption, so that’s me nicely settled in for the rest of the night.

Warden Norton is a mightily impressive evil bastard.

Great shout, Hadley as well.

In the same vein I'd also nominate from Green Mile that complete **** Percy Wetmore, "I didn't know the sponge was supposed to be wet"
and Sam Rockwell, while being a despicable individual, stealing every scene he's in.

I always had my doubts about Jemima . . . I think the Teds' Big & Little, did the dirty work, but she was the brains behind the operation.
I completely agree about Jemima being the mastermind! Big & Little Ted were probably just following orders. And since we're on the subject, how about Annie Wilkes from Misery?

Most scared I’ve been as a child would be:
the child catcher
the shark in jaws
and darth Vader

Favourite villains would be:
Bill the Butcher
and Neil in Heat …. In my world he gets away with it because I stop the film just before he spins the car round for the ridiculous unbelievable ending …. He gets away with Judge Amy and all the cash and that sets up The Score as the perfect sequel after he changes his name to Nick 👍

Last time I saw the child catcher, he still sent a chill. I was probably in my mid 40's. . . Superbly executed Scenes

As others have said, Robert Helpmann was a genuinely sinister presence as the Child Catcher. The actuality was that he was the kindest and gentlest of men; who shielded the children on the set of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from the ferocious temper of director Ken Hughes.

Laurence Olivier as Dr Christian Szell in 'Marathon Man'. Those dental scenes!

Christopher Lee as Lord Summerisle in 'The Wicker Man'.

The seemingly Banal becomes chilling reality.
