At the end of my tether
Brought up in Sothwick/Portslade .. everybody had a passing interest in the Albion, but growing up I was not football mad . That changed when some mates invited me along to the Goldstone ( I only went because I fancied this girl who was with them)
Once I was there I loved it , the atmosphere, the lights the crowd - and we won !
I have been hooked on The Albion ever since …

Born in Shoreham.
The family tree on my Mother's side has Sussex roots traced back to the 1500s so far.
Father was Irish.
You must be Albion aristocracy going that far back!

Local team was the dominant influence for me.

Family influence wasn’t really there, so it was all my doing. Where and when do I collect my medal?

Born in Brighton to Albion supporting parents and grandparents.

This being despite my dad being born in Oxford on VE Day as my grandfather was stationed there - he was a master carpenter and stonemason [Brighton trivia - he did majority of the masonry for the 'welcome to Brighton' pillars on the A23] & repaired planes.

Was talking to family about these only last week. They are call the Patcham Pylon. Patcham_Pylon

This is actually rather commendable. You’re effectively a football orphan, and yet whilst many others similarly without guidance all too easily turn to drugs, gambling, prostitution and plastic, you aspired to something greater, a path more honest and less easily trodden.

I've had an interest in the Albion since 1971 when I met a young chap when starting out as apprentices for the SE Gas Board (,SEGAS) on the Old Kent Road. (Mr Virgo from Woodingdean, are you still about?) I followed my local team Charlton but with time life got in the way and I eventually stopped going to matches in the mid-1990s. Then a move down to Sussex and an urge to get back watching football. Shift patterns initially allowed me to attend just a few Albion games (with my new Albion following colleagues, and even then mostly to away games) but since 2013 I've been a STH and, now retired, a regular Away supporter too. I didn't go to Gillingham but went to the Withdean many times. Been an Albion supporter since 1999 in effect and have never once regretted it. An unusual path to BHAFC supporting but there you are. I'd always wanted to move to the area at some point and got my dream move eventually. A DFL yes, a JCL possibly but a Glory-hunter? Definitely not.
Charlton will always have a special place in my heart but it's all about my local team now.
Nothing wrong with Charlton , good bunch of lads and lasses - but you have made a good step up ;)

Neither my parents or grandparents were in to football but it was my next door neighbour who was a regular at the Goldstone and started taking me to matches with his son who was a couple of years older than me when I must have been 7/8 years old. My Mum used to make us a flask of soup for half time to thank him for taking me. Back then schools were dominated with kids wearing Manchester United and Liverpool tops and the only place I could get a replica Brighton shirt from was Wisden sports!

Born in Portslade, but moved to Notts when I was three. My Dad, a Brummie, was always keen I kept something of my Brighton roots. we always went to Brighton for our holidays. So the first match I went to was Mansfield vs Brighton in 1970. We lost of course! However he took me to a lot of away fixtures around the Midlands and South Yorkshire especially during the Mullery era. He was a Birmingham City fan so I think he felt I should suffer a bit with football as well. My Dad’s claim to fame was that he played alongside Frank Tyson at football rather than cricket unfortunately.

Our plaque at the ground has loyal since 1955 thanks to dad and grandfather...due to location don't get to many games these days, however, the 4th generation are wearing the shirt with pride (UK and a nephew in Australia).

Born in Birmigham - Dad was a huge Blues fan - he used to take me to St. Andrews when I was very young - we saw Trevor Francis make his debut, and saw the likes of the Latchford brothers, Gordon Taylor, Bob Hatton and Kenny Burns - the era of the 'penguin' shirt.

We moved south when I was 11 and a couple of years ater I got dragged along to The Goldstone by some friends - never looked back.

I still have a soft spot for Blues and follow their results, but we've played each other many times over the years, and my loyalty is very much with the Albion.
Bluenose - Blue & White Heart

Born in Brighton at the RSCH.
MY parents lived in Orange Row at the time, and we moved to Portslade when I was still a baby. In fact, I’ve never lived any more than 8 miles away from the centre of Brighton 😂

Neither parent was into football but both my grandfathers were.
One was a Spurs fan, so I admit to having a soft spot for them, but my maternal Grandad was an Albion since the war.
Grandad Albion took me to the Goldstone in 1987 for the first time and the rest is history.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Like players called up for international duty, I think fans choice of pro team should only really be allowed on similar basis i.e.

Local team(s), when getting into football
Parent supports
Grandparent supports

How many of us have ended up following the Albion outside this criteria I wonder? I.e. just for the "Glory"? LOL!!! ;) (you poor sods, but fair play to you!)
- I didn't know anyone who watched BHA when I was growing up. Nobody was prepared to admit to slumming it like that.
- Hated football
- Chelsea possibly (although he died in 1975 so who knows)

I love live football and generally support my local team.

Born in Scotland, went to school in Greenock, my first club was Greenock Morton.
Spent most of my working life in Reading, hence Reading season ticket holder.
Now live near Salzburg and have season ticket at RB Salzburg.

Became a Seagull by accident after a visiting a friend near Brighton and being taken to the AMEX. I've thoroughly enjoyed the transformation under Hughton, Potter, de Zerbi and now Hürzeler. Looking forward to my first live Brighton game of the season on Saturday.

I don't know why anyone would be a bit sheepish about admitting that they weren't born locally but support The Albion; there are thousands of born and bred locals who support the London clubs or Man U/Liverpool. You only have to be at Brighton station on a Saturday morning to see them heading off to follow "their" clubs. I don't see Spurs or Arsenal fretting about having fans who weren't born within 50 miles of the ground.
