That's a Sainsbury trolley and I don't think there was a Sainsbury in Churchill Square in 1982 (they did open one but it's closed now), there was one in Broadfield shops in Crawley then though.

I reckon Broadfield, it doesn't look like Churchill Square/Town Centre to me. I don't recognise those concrete pillars.

Just been looking at old photos of Churchill Square and that photo doesn’t look like it’s taken there.
Behind the drum there is a round planter, I couldn’t see that in any old photos
I agree and I don’t recall a lot of red bricks around the buildings. Mostly grey and shipped in from East Berlin (probably!😂).

I reckon it’s Crawley as well.

As I remember Churchill Square didn't have any red brick, just concrete. If it was in Brighton I would guess Sussex Uni, but not being familiar with Crawley 40 years ago it could well be there.

In 1982 myself and my mates were constantly sitting on the wall opposite that Sainsbury’s. We’d have seen them (and possibly given them a good hiding as well 🤣)

I’m not familiar with Crawley town centre, i don’t know if that area has been redeveloped since 1982 or there are any old photos anywhere online

Looks earlier than 1982 to me ( they look about 16-18 in that photo but maybe that’s just me getting old! ) Norman was at Brighton Poly in 1982 so could be Brighton/UoS as people say but could be Guildford/Reigate:.

This is the Pondfrogs busking in 1980 when Paul and FBS were at sixth form together in Reigate

I was thinking very similarly. From their early Reigate times, possibly nearby Redhill which had a red brick shopping quadrant.

Queens Square Crawley and Churchill Square just didn’t look like the photo. Concrete jungles.
