Oh this would be fabulous. Can they bring on a big plastic Maypole and dance around that perhaps, then sacrifice the ref to the Harvest Gods in a giant wicker man?

I think the England players should be able to stand there and flick V's at them. Its part of English history/culture. Surely the same rules should apply?

I think that sort of flair should be down to the captain. A bit like the Haka, we have different variations of it.

This is the problem with such a long and varied history. So many options
I don’t follow rugby but it’s always felt odd that the opposition are essentially forced to watch the other team intimidate them
Personally I think all New Zealand sportspeople should be made to do it before competing. Liam Lawson should do it on the start line of every Grand Prix. Kane Williamson should have to lead it on the outfield before his team take on England in a Lord’s test match. The women’s netball team should do it on court.

Maybe the All Blacks doing the Haka to opposing teams is hugely disrespectful to the All Blacks. Why should they be allowed to do it? Why can the opposing team not just walk away from it laughing?

Given that the Haka is a ritual belonging to the people that New Zealand was taken from, the equivalent response from the English (Angles) would be to retort with a ritual belonging to the people who were there when they invaded, the ancient Celts. Archeologists have found evidence of sacrifices.
The stories of Wicker Men being burned by the Celts are based on Roman and Greek sources and these reportedly contained both animal and human sacrifices. The latter would certainly have legal issues and the former wouldn't be without those problems either, so we'd have to use fairly liberal interpretations. Either rerun a trial from 'I'm a Celebrity' or perhaps we make them sit through the film. As time is likely to be an issue, maybe just the sexy bits.
However, as the film's actually set in Scotland and 'I'm a Celeb' is filmed in Australia or Wales, we might prefer to go with a purely English ancient folk ritual. My preference would be:
Joe Marler could be 'The Trigger Man'.
Could have added this to the comedy that has aged well. I'll never not laugh at Eldon's dead eyed farmer character.

I think that's what you call karma, 24-22 to the mighty All Blacks and the audience absolutely lapped up the Haka.

Really….i thought the crowd chanted Swing Low Sweet Chariot quite loudly during the Haka…and loved it when the England team advanced to the half way line

Marler retires from International Rugby after 95 England caps
England prop Joe Marler has retired from international rugby having won 95 caps.
Marler made his England debut during the 2012 summer tour of South Africa and was part of three Six Nations-winning sides in 2016, 2017 and 2020.
He also represented England at three World Cups, including in 2019 when they were beaten by South Africa.
"It's time for me to move on," said Marler, 34.
"I've been really, really lucky to experience both the mega highs and the mega lows in an England shirt. I will cherish all of them because they all count."

I worked for a printer in lewes many years ago and we printed telephone cards ( remember them before mobile phones) anyway one of our largest customers was New Zealand telecom and they sent over a sales team to review the contract etc.
my audit clerk was a new Zealander and when she heard they were coming, she and a fellow kiwi employee on the shop floor, welcomed the delegation in the reception area with a HAKA. It represented the safe passage from home, the social interaction of the group with its hosts and the invitation to enjoy our hospitality. It was very moving.
some of the comments on here trashing cultural norms that have been performed for thousands of years is typical of this countries lack of social identity.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the Haka is great and about the only bit of rugby I’d bother watching, just strikes me as odd the opposition are forced to watch it. It’d be like every visiting team at Anfield being forced to stand in front of the Kop for them singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
