No, he should have been held accountable after this election, by going after him before the election he's got absolutely nothing to lose and has ramped everything up.

He was trailing Desantis in polls before the court cases really started and riled up his base, everytime he appears in court his polling goes up
Right, so risk the statute of limitations expiring and allow him years and years of freedom? That's not a good idea either. It was right to prosecute him, those prosecutions were not political and should not be political. They were due legal process and followed the right timelines for discovery and allowing the defendant to build their defence.

DeSantis was ahead in polls until people heard DeSantis talk with his silly little voice and his nothingness. If anything, DeSantis is an even bigger naked Emporer than Trump is. But Trump had a cult behind him. Nikki Haley's candidacy was real, but also flawed because it was forever in the shadow of the person the Republican party wanted as the nominee. Trump had the support of the donors, the ferver from his cultists never waned and the elected Republicans were still bent at the knee for him. You can pretend it was the legal consequences which has resulted in Trump being the nominee if you want, but it's a wrong and bad take which is divorced from the reality of the situation.

Logically, Trump should have been finished after the insurrection. But there's nothing logical about his candidacy right from the start. He's a cult leader, not a Political figure.

The courts being loaded makes it even more reasonable to have waited

People are making the same mistakes with trump as they did in 2016.

If Trump wins, the Dems and their supporters have gotten what they deserve by being naive.
Most of these cases were indicted and under investigation long before Trump even announced his Candidacy.

It’s a complete misconception and far right narrative

to think the Democratic Party in the States is responsible for the scheduling of trials for criminal offences.

Biden didn’t bring these charges against Trump, they have been either civil litigations by private individuals or criminal indictments brought by the DoJ.

Dont forget Trump was impeached by Congress on Jan 13 2020 for his actions on Jan 6 - he won the vote in the Senate but the results of the investigation were passed on to the DoJ for a criminal investigation.

Good post, and let's also remember that Mitch McConnell said that it wasn't the job of the Senate to convict a president but then the Supreme Court (conveniently) stated that it WAS for the Senate. The Republican party gamed the system to protect their own and that's the most cynical thing of the whole sorry carry on. Their opinions are entirely formed based on who is involved.

Lady Justice is blindfolded for a reason, the Republicans are willfully blind if it suits them.

The Judge who dismissed the documents case in Florida, Eileen Cannon, is the judge who is handling the Ryan Routh case (would-be Assassin of Donald Trump on his golf course) and has denied a motion to re-assign. She was promoted beyond her ability by Trump and is apparently in line to become the Attorney General in a fictitious 2nd Trump term. The decision to dismiss the documents will be overturned on appeal by an actual Judge and I don't imagine anyone in the world believes Routh will get a fair hearing with her at the helm.

But where would you stop. If he loses this coming election - would you then have to defer the cases if he says he's going to run again in 2028?

Pennsylvania seems to be the ball game. If Harris wins PA it’s game over.

Do we know what comparative position was at this point 4 years ago?
Things is, it's hard to know what wards have been included. I would just ignore stats like that. It's only next week that we'll know.

I have a horrible feeling he's going to win. Although I rather hope not.

I'm loathed to ask, but what's "Koupmala"?
I think it might be a cross between a Kia Koupe and an impala?

Both considered to be top runners 😎

It is really amazing how the right constantly tries to adopt any phrasing from the sanity centre/left. January 6th was a coup attempt - so they were desperate to find anything they could claim was ALSO a coup, so it's not a problem any more because it's 1-1 and one hand washes the other. But Kamala becoming the nominee rather young Joe was not a coup, it was young Joe reading (or being last to read) the tea leaves and realising he had to step aside. He wasn't the nominee yet. This does not meet any definition of coup, but the right is trying to claim it does to wash away the stain of the January 6th actual coup.

It's also why Trump adopts the terminology used to attack him, despite not knowing what the words mean. He calls Kamala a radical leftist Marxist Communist. Quite the contortionist is she!
