I expect a lot of people are about to be slightly disappointed. About the lowest level assault offence possible, he’ll admit it with the evidence as it is and given I expect it’s his first time offence he’ll probably get a caution. Same thing as happens on every weekend on every town in the country.

Yep. I read there are loads of fairly f***ed-up and vulnerable people, including women, who are on jail sentences as brief as 2 weeks. Utterly pointless, as they lose what job they may have had, and often become homeless as a consequence, and are back inside on some other low grade act of tomfoolery in the space of weeks. All part of the previous government's 'tough stance'. Sadly it will cost a lot of money to 'support' vulnerable low grade persistent criminals. A discussion for another place and time, but one that needs to be had.

Labour have promised to add 14,000 new prison places.

Should be suspended immediately and hopefully the police are involved.

I do hope no one condemning him had a giggle at this though .

A criminal conviction will do.

People don’t go to prison for that if the victim doesn’t suffer a significant injury.

Absolute mess. Nothing funny about people being sucker punched.

The choreographer of the hold-me-back dancing should lose his job over that. And where was Health and Safety?

Fair enough.

Rioting is different gravy. That wasn't rioting. I may delete a prior post.

I agree, but from the BBC article linked.

In July 2023, a 56-year-old man was found guilty of stalking and harassing Amesbury at his constituency office and in town.

No doubt the police will be charging him soon, and then the legal course of action will take place.
Was it the same bloke?

Classic case of internet stupidity. 'Look how tough we are'. Puts it online and the bloke gets arrested. Dumbness knows no limits.

I'll be delighted if Mike Amesbury no longer has a say in the running of our country.

Wikipedia states that Mike Amesbury was previously a career advisor by trade, which could prove useful for him - he might not find it easy to obtain meaningful employment in the near future.

I don't see how it's a sucker punch, someone has to strike first.
Is he expected to exclaim 'have at thee, varlet" before having a go?
Self defence as mitigation, whether genuine or not will surely be
forthcoming.

Didn’t John Prescott, a Labour MP and man many Brighton fans wanted beatified, lamp someone who chucked an egg at him?

I think it better for the police/CPS to find out the details: we don't know the back story - and I suspect for most of us there could be a set of events that would make that behaviour understandable (if not acceptable).
Do you really believe what you are saying ? On what planet is assaulting someone when they are turning to walk away "understandable"

Quite a lot of lowlifes climbing into the greasy political system and quite a prevalence of personality disorders I would reckon. The system delivers this. Normal folks who would probsbly run things better wouldn’t put up with the sh*t it takes to get there.
